Summary

THE NUMBER ONE NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER

Staring down the barrel of her fortieth year, Samantha Irby is confronting the ways her life has changed since the days she could work a full 11 hour shift on 4 hours of sleep, change her shoes and put mascara on in the back of a moving cab and go from drinks to dinner to the club without a second thought. Recently, things are more 'Girls Gone Mild.'

In Wow, No Thank You Irby discusses the actual nightmare of living in a rural idyll, weighs in on body negativity (loving yourself is a full-time job with shitty benefits) and poses the essential question: Sure sex is fun but have you ever googled a popular meme?

Critic reviews

"Samantha Irby is the king of sparkling misanthropy and tender, loving dread." (Jia Tolentino)

"A laugh. A fart. A snort. Or some combination thereof. Be prepared to totally lose control of the noises that come out of your body while reading the latest essay collection from humor writer Samantha Irby." (Bustle)

"The only writer who can make me laugh with abandon in public. Her signature irreverence is intact, of course, but it can't mask the heart she leaves bleeding on the page." (Elle)

Hilariously honest

This is great, a really enjoyable read. It's always good to hear a fellow supposed grown-up describe in detail how they don't know what the fuck they're doing either. She's hilariously honest about her chronic illness and her previous chaotic dating experiences. Definitely recommend listening on audiobook.

wow, yes please

This is a book of essays/ a memoir by Samantha Irby. I loved it. It may end up being one of the most inspirational reads of my life, as it inspired me to start writing my own book. It is an easy read which is fun a relateable, even for a straight, white lady like me. I thoroughly enjoyed her writing style and her blunt open-ness. At first i felt i didnt like the narration, like she was reading rather than speaking (iykwim) but weeks later and i can still hear her voice.I am looking forward to reading more of her work. Also… I commented on her instagram and she replied…so that was cool!

Alright!

It’s an okay book, basically a long rant! I think it started to get funny from chapter 10 but that’s a long way into the book... Sam seems to be a great person who has overcome a lot of hurdles!

Just wonderful

So relatable, although the narration is a little slow, I found it best at 1.2 or 1.3. Just brilliant. Away to look up the show she was involved in now 😁

Not funny.

Not funny, pathetic at times. far too many "f" and "mf" words. Voice and attitude of reader is depressing. couldn't finish it.

a pass from me

this felt like the view of a person very angry with the world, which way too often was bordering on disgusting. very passive-aggressive, if not just aggressive too. i did not see humour in it, i actually had to skip a few parts, it was that bad, so i ended up not really listening to the entire book. chapter 9, for example, was just straight up tiring.
regarding the performance, listening to it, i felt like the author was almost screaming at me with some parts...did not like that.
unfortunately, i picked this because of the cute cover, and felt i just got duped. don’t follow this rabbit, it’s gonna take you to a bad land of wonder. just my opinion. so, i’ll say this: wow, no.
