Story
She bursts into my life like a storm, and nothing is the same again. One by one, I watch as my friends fall under her spell. Only I see that her smiles don’t reach her cold, furious eyes. And when I’m accused of things I didn’t do, when my home is vandalized, I know she’s behind it. But she only lets her mask slip when no one is looking, so if I say anything, I’ll look crazy. So when the baby shower comes around, I’m sitting on a velvet sofa in a posh hotel room, surrounded by balloons. But that afternoon, I finally learn the unbelievable truth. There is no baby....

Summary
Twenty-one years ago, Dr Richard Carter and his wife Pamela were killed in what has become the most infamous double murder of the modern age.
Their 1 0year-old daughter – nicknamed the Angel of Death – spent eight years in a children’s secure unit and is living quietly under an assumed name with a family of her own.
Now, on the anniversary of the trial, a documentary team has tracked down her older sister, compelling her to break two decades of silence.
Her explosive interview sparks national headlines and journalist Brinley Booth, a childhood friend of the Carter sisters, is tasked with covering the news story.
For the first time, the three women are forced to confront what really happened that night – with devastating consequences for them all.
When I Was Ten is the highly anticipated, stay-up-all-night next book by acclaimed crime author Fiona Cummins.
Critic reviews
"Grips like a vice." (Val McDermid)
"Dark, creepy and ultimately compassionate, When I Was Ten is a chilling look at the consequences of a childhood gone wrong." (JP Delaney)

Gripping Read
great storyline and keeps you interested. I think for audible they should add saying the name before each person's storyline because on audible they all mesh together and you realize they've changed characters and you didn't know. I'm guessing in the book this was done with separate paragraphs. it would have been nice for the narrator to change voices between the 3 different women characters or had another woman narrate as well.

Poor narration spoils story
Each chapter read in exactly the same voice and you have to listen for a few minutes sometimes to work out who is speaking. Nothing changes with this voice whether it’s the violent scenes or the happier ones. Great storyline though

First class psychological thriller.
Addictive read. The wonderful tone of the narrator made it possible to push through the dreadful retelling of the emotional and physical abuse the sisters endured.
This abuse caused the shattering of one of the sisters minds, forever, creating someone with no empathy or feeling. But I could only feel sadness for her because of what she went through.
A good portrail of how the media stop at nothing to get the story, to feed the publics thirst for scandal.
A great twist at the end I did not see coming.
I will definitely be listening to more of her books.

Good story, narration could be better
Generally a good storyline, kept me interested & I wanted to listen until the end. I guessed most of the twists (but I’m quite good at that anyway!). The narration was difficult because she didn’t change her voice for different characters, so I kept having to rewind to make sure I knew which character it was meant to be talking. It was hard to differentiate between the two main characters.
Otherwise good story, worth a listen
