Summary

Twenty-one years ago, Dr Richard Carter and his wife Pamela were killed in what has become the most infamous double murder of the modern age.

Their 1 0year-old daughter – nicknamed the Angel of Death – spent eight years in a children’s secure unit and is living quietly under an assumed name with a family of her own.

Now, on the anniversary of the trial, a documentary team has tracked down her older sister, compelling her to break two decades of silence.

Her explosive interview sparks national headlines and journalist Brinley Booth, a childhood friend of the Carter sisters, is tasked with covering the news story.

For the first time, the three women are forced to confront what really happened that night – with devastating consequences for them all.
When I Was Ten is the highly anticipated, stay-up-all-night next book by acclaimed crime author Fiona Cummins.

Gripping Read

great storyline and keeps you interested. I think for audible they should add saying the name before each person's storyline because on audible they all mesh together and you realize they've changed characters and you didn't know. I'm guessing in the book this was done with separate paragraphs. it would have been nice for the narrator to change voices between the 3 different women characters or had another woman narrate as well.

Disturbing but engrossing

I was very disturbed by the child abuse and as a result I could not listen to this at night ,it was very raw and real. The story is really good and really well told ..I would definitely recommend this book

Awful... Dragged on etc. Bored all the way through. A book that thinks it's smart. It's not

Pure Brilliance

An absolutely amazing ‘read’. The story is gripping, twisting and emotive. The narration is pleasant without being overly produced and really captures the tone of the story. Would highly recommend.

Poor narration spoils story

Each chapter read in exactly the same voice and you have to listen for a few minutes sometimes to work out who is speaking. Nothing changes with this voice whether it’s the violent scenes or the happier ones. Great storyline though

Unusual story line

It was good from the start. Twisty and definitely a page turner. Some parts are really quite difficult to listen too, not in a dull way just sad knowing this sort of emotional abuse exists. It’s a very good work if fiction I would highly recommend

Complex and twisted

This tale doesn’t let up in pace. It switches between past and present as the three main characters go about their lives following a double murder. All is not as it seems and unraveling who did what and why is at the heart of this complex tale of revenge. It’s also about familial bonds and lifelong friendships and the consequences of not telling the truth. Gripping stuff.

Rushed ending, plot weak

The pacing is pretty poor - it starts out slow (in a good way) and builds interest and suspense, but the pacing suddenly shifts rapidly and the ending feels rushed. One side plot is entirely unnecessary and doesn’t really add anything to the story, in my opinion - it feels wasted. Overall, interesting premise but ultimately disappointing - would benefit from some editing to sort out the latter pacing. It also starts to feel a little trite at the end - certain supporting characters are poorly fleshed out or underdeveloped, and their actions and reactions feel very hollow. Narration good
