Summary
What would you do to survive?
For Jessica, that means going through the motions of life. Doing what’s expected of her. On the surface, she’s a pretty young woman with her future stretched out before her. In reality? Something is off. Something she’s learned is best kept to herself.
In her job at the local grocery store, she blends in. Until one day when she’s swept up in the crosshairs of an active shooter situation. Faced with staring death in the eye or letting her darkness free, she takes off her mask. To the survivors of the event, she’s a hero.
For Jessica? She must face her toughest challenge yet—putting the bad thoughts back under wraps before she hurts someone else.

dark
I loved the narration of Heidi Bindhammer
Jessica loves horror movies and true crime. She has social anxiety and agoraphobia makes the world outside of her apartments tough. She copes her job at the local grocery store with the help of pills. That is, until she gets swept up in the crossfire of an active shooter. The shooter is colleague. She is accused of being either an accomplice, or a cold blooded killer herself, after the shooter dies at the end of her knife.
Jess must tap into the growing darkness that is inside herself.
This book is a dark thriller.

Incredible
This was the first time I listen to a book like this and I absolutely loved it. It had me on the edge of my seat for the whole thing.
After reading what was this about, it didn’t prepare me for the amazing story that was behind the title picture.
I definitely recommend this book.

Amazing Narration
Heidi Bindhammer is an amazing narrator. She did an incredible job at voicing the characters. It was the voices that drew me into the story. I look forward to listening to more of her works.

Killer or a survivor????
Spoilers……
This was a really good story. Makes you really wonder if she truly is a killer with the darkness or just put in situations that led her to do what she needed to do and the darkness as she puts it is what led her to cover it up. It kept me engaged the whole time and the narration was great. I would love to read a story of her growth in prison and what becomes after.

Great Book, Great Narration!
First, the story. I enjoyed the story for most of it. The main character's choices seemed to make sense given her mental state throughout the book, and hearing her unravel seemed quite legit and scary. Some of the events seemed a bit questionable, but I can give that a pass as it was still entertaining.
Secondly the writing. I can get turned off of a book because of awkward writing, but (the audio version at least) didn't have anything that stuck out to me as blatantly incorrect from a grammatical standpoint. Not that I'm a student of grammar, but oddities stick out like sore thumbs, and this one had NONE!!
Finally (and really the thing that kept me in this book) was the narration. Heidi did such a good job of bringing not only the main character to life, but all the others through the book. I could feel the emotions of all of them, could instantly recognize them by her voice changes, and could lose myself in the world of the book through their thoughts. I'll definitely look up other books narrated by Heidi and would definitely recommend anyone to listen to what she's done.
I received a free copy of this book for an honest review.

Description was better than book
This description of this book was far better than the book itself. The lack of character and story development was obvious to me. I didn't really like any of the characters. The concept was good about a person who felt they had a dark side and were afraid of what would happen because of it. I would have been more interested in learning more about Jessica and the people in her life instead of hearing her mope around constantly freaking out about everything. Maybe that's what you do when you are guilty. I just feel this could have been so much better and was disappointed with it.

3 star listen
Our fmc in this one believes she isn’t human
She believes she has serial killer tendencies.
She’s involved in a active shooter situation, it’s interesting to hear what does through her head.
3 star listen
Audio narration was ok, gifted audio, narration kept my interest.
