Story
You never forget the one that got away, do you? Nell Mason is extremely happy with her life–or at least that’s what she tells herself. She’s lucky to have a high-powered job as a lawyer, even if it does come with an eccentric set of billionaire divorce clients. And she’s absolutely fine living with her sweet, if slightly dull, boyfriend Gus in their London flat, where they have very sensible sex once (okay, sometimes twice) a week. She’s definitely not stuck in a rut.

Couldn’t put it down!!
- By Kindle Customer on 30-07-22
Summary
No question about it, there are two little purple lines. I’m pregnant.
After eight years together, Lil Bailey thought she’d already found ‘the one’ - that is, until he dumped her for a blonde 20-something colleague. So she does what any self-respecting singleton would do: swipes right, puts on her best bra and finds herself on a first date with a handsome mountaineer called Max. What’s the worst that can happen?
Well it’s pretty bad actually. First Max ghosts her and then, after weeing on a stick (but mostly her hands), a few weeks later Lil discovers she’s pregnant. She’s single, 31 and living in a thimble-sized flat in London - it’s hardly the happily ever after she was looking for.
Lil’s ready to do the baby thing on her own - it can’t be that hard, right? But she should probably tell Max, if she can track him down. Surely he’s not that Max, the highly eligible, headline-grabbing son of Lord and Lady Rushbrooke, currently trekking up a mountain in South Asia? Oh, maybe he wasn’t ignoring Lil after all....

It was quite cute but few annoying bits
Overall it wasn’t a bad listen and enjoyed the narration.
Slightly irritated by how abrupt the story lines were. Nothing properly developed.
Also would be great not to put women off their smear tests and actually paying some attention to things like at what stage you can actually see a heartbeat etc…

What happens NOW? We’d all like to know… (***Spoilers included)
Lackluster storytelling, not enough character building, and too much insignificant filler. This was one of the most unsatisfactory books I’ve ever listened to. The main character (Lil) is extremely insecure and lacks deep emotional connections to those around her due to her unwillingness to be real and vulnerable with even her closest friends and family. There was absolutely no relatability to the character in this book. I finished listening to it only in the hope that the main characters would get their happily-ever-after and that there would be a real emotional connection in the end between Lil and Max… but no… not so much.
The “comedy” element to this romcom is more like one cringy incident after another. For a woman who ends up with an extremely attractive, famous person, the character writes nothing about the description of the female lead. This would be fine except that all you get is an impression of her poor judgement, poor choices, and her wishy-washy personality, which is lacking. Lil’s lack of confidence and blah personality, leave the reader with an overall impression of a lonely woman who is too insecure to let anyone in or commit to a relationship. No character growth… except the baby itself growing inside her. It ends with a confession of “liking” the father of her baby with a possible chance of a relationship, but “not a relationship”…. Maybe? I was confused and disappointed at the end of this book. There wasn’t even so much as an epilogue to tell the reader what happens.
I gave it 2 stars because I loved the premise and it had a few good moments throughout the book. It wasn’t torture to listen to … just meh, and lacking in romance and comedy.
I’d love to ask the author… What DOES happen now?? I’d really like to know Sophia Money-Coutts…. I wish you’d actually told us.

Surprisingly good
Am generally not a fan of author read novels as they are obviously not professional out loud readers.

Perfect for a road trip
Silly but perfect for a road trip. As a traveler, her dialogue regarding the guy annoys me. if you're not, it's a perfect thing to listen to while on the road through Los Angeles traffic on the way to wine tasting and camping alone with 2 pups 10 days before planning on becoming a single mom by choice.
