Great book but look elsewhere for pronunciation

Great book but the narrator's pronunciation of Welsh words was not great, which is a problem for people not familiar with the language. In fairness to her, she had clearly looked up the basic rules (her Ll and Dd sounds were correct) but I'd recommend looking to the author's YouTube channel for better examples.

Aside from that, it's a lovely, insightful book on a fascinating topic, written by a Welsh woman who grew up steeped in her culture. Well worth a read or listen (maybe both!) for anyone interested in the subject matter. The narrator was good aside from the issue above, too.

A good introduction to Welsh Witchcraft

I have read and heard all of this book. It is not a story book. The reader has a nice voice but isn’t Welsh. She is easy to listen to though.
It is a much needed help into the sadly overlooked Welsh spiritual practices and their cultural history. The author clearly is very passionate about Wales and all things Welsh. This only enhances the experience of the reader.
It is not a heavy duty history book but is quite modern in its approach and includes some spells and spiritual exercises. It is a good introduction to the subject and it takes the reader through the seasons and has a celebration for them which you can do at home. I look forward to reading more books on this subject by this author in the future. Would recommend.

A good book for beginners but a bit repetitive

Although this book is written for beginners, even an experienced witch such as myself can learn something from it - some of the info on Welsh spirits and customs was new to me. The author is obviously enthusiastic about her subject but si felt that she was rather verbose and repetitive at times, often repeating the same thing, just in different terms. A lot more could be fitted in if she learns to be more concise. I put it on 1.5 speed when listening because the repetition was annoying me. The narrator had a nice voice and spoke with feeling, but her Welsh pronounciation is not good.

Pam ddim cael yr awdur neu cymraes i ddarllen?

great book, wish it was author read or read by someone who can speak Welsh. as a Welsh speaker it's pretty jarring when the English reader reads the Welsh bits.

I did like the yule ritual... I'm taking that one forward :)

The author does like to use the same words over and over... she's enigmatic with it one might say.

wow

I don't understand the very few bad reviews, I can only grasp that the people do not understand, nor have true knowledge of the paganism of Cymru. Albeit, myself, I have made mistakes in my research, I am a person who is aware to take heed of more experienced practitioners. I find people have an idea of someone and their practice and hold them accountable to that notion, rather than academically and/or personally researching many sources.
I knew the book would be fantastic, I was rather surprised how much I knew, and pleasantly not shocked on what I did not. Being brought up in cymru, many things now make sense from listening to the book. I CAN-NOT wait for the physical copy!
I definetely felt I underpaid for such an amazing point of reference for my cymry practise.
Mhara not only confirmed things for me, but gave me some many tools to expand my practise.
I sing the praises of mhara, her content & her book because she and they deserve it.
I have told countless people about it, and now I am definetely going to be gifting a few copies to loved ones. Da iawn, if I could give 100 stars I would.

shame, it could have been a good book!

I have purchased the audio book. it's such a shame that they haven't asked a Welsh person to narrate as even though the effort is clear, the pronunciation is poor.

it's putting me off listening to the rest of the book.. So far, it's OK but very repatative and disappointing.

All about the author

I did not enjoy this book, it soon became clear that the author enjoyed talking about herself more than the subject matter. The reading was monotonous and I was amazed at how dreary she made this fascinating topic sound.
