Summary
When Jennifer Risher joined Microsoft in 1991, she met her husband and with him became an extra-lucky beneficiary of the dot-com boom. By their early 30s, they had tens of millions of dollars. Today, there are millions of people like her.
Jennifer’s thought-provoking, personal story includes the voices of others in her demographic and explores the hidden impact of wealth on identity, relationships, and sense of place in the world.
At a time when income inequality is a huge problem, our country’s economic system is broken, and money is still a taboo subject even among those closest to us, this engaging, introspective memoir is essential listening: a catalyst for conversation that demystifies wealth and inspires us to connect.

We need to talk
Good listen. Enjoyed it. But I’m just glad I ain’t rich and never will be. First world problems of a rich person. And the guilt of spending it.

Interesting perspective on wealth
I bought this book as I’ll be in a similar position to the author, hoping to glean some insight into the trappings of wealth. On that front, it has helped me. How to deal with family, requests from friends, and philanthropy.
The main drawback for this book is that the author isn’t likeable at all. Unable to think for herself, rigidly following her parents values right into her thirties and strictly adhering to gender norms. Her selfishness overwhelmed me, waiting until her networth was $40m before making a big deal of a charity contribution of 0.05% of her wealth. Oblivious to the horrific environmental impacts of private air travel, refurbishing houses and rooms every few years.
Make no mistake, this is not a woman to aspire to.

A very revealing look into the life of the author.
I really appreciate the vulnerability and opened shown. Helped me to be more empathetic and better understand what it means to be wealthy and how to manage your resources.

Unhelpful
Book is mostly the author's autobiography so it presents a narrow experience of wealth and is not widely applicable

Balanced perspective
A memoir of a middle class person who accidentally got ridiculously rich and how she maintains value and meaning in her own life and her family's. I learned a lot from this listen. Highly recommend.

Nothing here to really appreciate.
Striving, overly self consciousness, confessing not a single scrap of insight. Gee...look at how well I navigated being super rich.

Worth Reading!
The first half, covering childhood and early working days did not appear to me to be worth publishing, although it do provide context to better appreciate what was to come. The second half, on the other hand, addressing the issues the author and her family faced. as a consequence of their becoming, super rich, was interesting, enlightening, and well worth communicating too an audience beyond the “one percent.” I am grateful to the author for sharing her story and subjecting herself, once again to the opinions and judgments of others. It is a fascinating window into the lives of those who the “ninety-nine percent”do not encounter frequently, if ever. It confirms, among other things, that the most valuable things in life do not require the possession of a fortune. Thank you, Jennifer!

Most profound
I greatly appreciate Jennifer’s vulnerability and courage here, as well as her willingness to challenge everyone’s stereotypes. An important read for our society in these times.

We Need To Talk: a memoir about first world problems
7 hours of a women talking about how it’s hard to be rich.
I heard about this book on the Stacking Benjamin’s podcast and it sounded interesting. Unfortunately, it was not what I expected and reading it just made me angry for purchasing I and thus contributing to her wealth and thus contributing to more first world problems and thus a second edition of this book at some point :(
