Summary
Keith has died 12 times.
After making a deal with a mysterious immortal, he was sent to a new world in hopes of gaining the offered reward - a chance at a better life with his family. However, Keith failed to realize that this deal did not come with an expiration date, no matter how many times he died.
After dying for the dozenth time, Keith renegotiates with the immortal. This new deal will see him sent to the world of Raiah - a world filled with monsters, cowardly monkeys, and a system of magic very similar to the fantasy roleplaying games his brother used to enjoy.
Completing a quest to hunt the most dangerous monsters on the planet is the price Keith will need to pay to regain his old life. It’s a good thing that all of his experiences in his previous lives translate to Skills in this new one because if Keith fails this time, the price he will need to pay will be far steeper.
We Hunt Monsters is a crunchy LitRPG in an epic fantasy setting. Fans of Dakota Krout, Will Wight, and the Monster Hunter games will enjoy this new series by the best-selling author of the Rise to Omniscience and Buryoku series.

Interesting start to a series
I have previously read/listened to the Buryoku series from this author and enjoyed it very much, but hadn't tried any of his other series until now. Having listened to the first one in this series now, I think I will need to investigate some of his other series too, but not this one since I bought the rest of the series before I had even finished this one.
The performance of the narrator was a good one overall, possibly could have added a little more emotion into the characters at times, but the performance was clear and distinctive and enhanced my enjoyment of the book.
Overall, a highly enjoyable first book in the series.

narrator
I think the narrator need to make more of an effort when the characters are in distress he make them sound like there having a casual conversation. other that that its a good book.

Great story, cannot wait formore
enjoyed story and system in play. start of story was a little disorienting as was not what I expected but was a good intro and builds a solid backstop for main character. progression after this was fun and entertaining, I look forward to more.

mmmmeeeeehhhh
1) the no bladed weapons is stupid because I can be disarmed or the weapon can get stuck is stupid.
2) the stupid pg cussing poop this, poop on a stick, and the other annoying ones, yes there are others are just lame and ruins the flow of the story, if you don't like cussing don't replace it with pg cussing it is lame
3) there are several time the Mc asks the guide questions that are just moronic, for being 400 some odd yrs, he is a moron
4) not finishing.....returning

Really?
Someone with acute paranoid schizophrenia can win a Nobel Prize.
Someone who is blind can become a piano icon.
Someone with ALS can become one of the greatest minds of a generation.
Someone with an audible lisp can not make a good book better by reading it as a job.

strange choice (spoilers kinda)
good read for the most part but for a guy that lived many lives and not wanting to use a sword i don’t see why he don’t use gauntlets. He could add spikes, or brass knuckle like items. Yet he goes for a hammer? that makes no sense to me. His someone that supposed to have life times of experience and can’t even think of a simple solution to his very stupid problem.

Breath of Fresh Air!
Not your average litrpg.
not the common sassy MC.
not the common OP MC. (it actually makes sense.)
the danger is ACCTUALLY dangerous and he actually almost dies.
the girl actually acts like a girl and the guy acts like a guy. that exchange where she hits him and he leaves her behind WAS SO REFRESHING IT WAS AWESOME!! it was the best part. it was so small compared to the whole book but it was so SOLID in their personalities. HE wasn't going to die. SHE wasn't going to be disrespected. but HE wasn't going to DIE. and ohhhhh...i loooove ittttt.....the deeper issues of the mind and how when you live that long you become numb and a different person and....ahhhh...its such a good story.
can't wait for book 2!

Very Enjoyable!
Was a fun listen! Wish the book would have been longer felt like it was just getting started. Cover Art is pretty amazing, Aaron Oster writes great stories, felt the book should of been named We Hunt Monsters of Man, it was a little misleading but there are some pretty epic monster fights.
Shawn Hertel as a new Narrator on Audible did an amazing job, Smooth transitions between characters and just the right amount of emotion at the right time. Looking forward to listening to more books narrated by him!

Bad Narration and over explaining.
This could have been a great story. Honestly, it is not a terrible story, it is the narration that makes the bad parts really stand out.
Narration: Female parts where they should be yelling, or in a very intense situation, where urgency is needed, they just whisper. There was a 3 way conversation between the MC, his guide, and a female companion, and I was never able to guess which was the guide, and which was the companion. There is no emotion, the inflections are all wrong. It is hard to listen to.
Story: Most everything is over explained, sometimes overexplained multiple times. If you are reading the kindle version, it might be good for teens or pre-teens to learn the genre. Otherwise it is a slog to get through. Maybe there is some minimum word count that is needed that he had to hit.
The story has a good premise, and some decent parts, but those do not outshine how awful it is to listen to it. I kept listening, hoping it would get past that, like maybe the first half would be system and world building, but it really never stopped.
Characters are a little simple, but not terrible. I feel this book could be better if a lot of the fat is trimmed, and more interesting scenes are input. He was in a city/town, he could have been working with some of the citizens for something, instead of being focused on one small part of the whole place.
Not terrible for a first book, if it is a first book. If there was better narration, I would have probably had a good time. A 3 start story with a 5 star narration is a good time. But a 3 star story with a 1 star narration is a waste. I am glad my time was not wasted as I listen while driving.

Good
I have the entire rise to omnisciense and I loved them so I gave this book a shot. was a little disappointed, the MC's main reason to continue is flimsy at best, that's the only real complaint I have, the narrator is good but his lisp distracts me now and then. other than those complaints, solid good work and story progression.

solidly enjoyable
fun and fairly fast-paced, it has some good system explanations. There are a few weird aspects like many of the secondary characters act like actual npcs rather than people and its hard to tell how much of that is intentional.
