Summary

The first arc in Morgan's Rise to Omniscience. Over 650,000 words in one convenient box set!

This set contains books 1-5 of Rise to Omniscience, as well as the audio exclusive short story, "Beast Zone".

Morgan's life is not easy.

Growing up on the streets of City Four, he is constantly shunned by the other citizens. Morgan doesn't mind being ignored. What he does mind, though, are the constant beatings from the city guards due to his friendship with Sarah, the city lord's only daughter.

Lord Simon wants him dead, but the laws of the kingdom are on Morgan’s side, and even the guards won't kill him just for being seen near his manor. Morgan’s time is running out, though. Lord Simon has deep pockets, and his last visit to the manor may just have put him over the edge. Worse, he is nearing his 16th birthday, and has yet to awaken any abilities. In a world where might makes right, he has never been one of the mighty. What will he do when faced with a life-altering decision, and just how will his decision impact those around him?

Warning: This book contains some profanity, gore, and content that may not be suitable for children. This book also contains GameLit elements such as stat sheets and a form of leveling and experience gain.

Better than expected

I initially picked this up because it was a boxed set, and Doug has been a great narrator on other books I've listened to. the long run time was a huge plus as I tend to listen to 20-30 hours per week while I'm working.

The story is a perfect mash up of CRPG, Harry potter, game of thrones, and black clover. It's in a lighter tone than those, but draws the best elements from them.

Performance was excellent, as expected, and I'm glad I took the time to give it a listen.

What a surprising book

This book drew me into this world and now I can't wait for the next book set!
This is one of the few books that the story is well written and flows so well. There are many unexpected characters that turn into show stoppers. I loved the way the author worked the story, the core characters turn into strong and unique personas. However the way the tie in to the next arc was accomplished is cold blooded.
The narrator did a fantastic job in bringing the story to life. They were able to establish each different character with their own personality.
All I can say is that I really enjoyed this book.
5***** plus

Childish voices

The narrator chose to voice the main character like a 5 year old, i got about 6 hours in but caved in as i couldn’t stand it anymore.

Bad teen romance

I recently listened to the audiobook drawn by the intriguing title and length and hoping for an engaging story. However, my expectations were not met as the plot primarily revolved around teenage romance, which was not what I anticipated. The story focuses on a boy grappling with his personal life, but the narrative is deeply entrenched in adolescent relationships, lacking the depth or variety I was looking for. While the production quality of the audiobook and the narrator's performance were commendable, the content itself was a letdown for me. Therefore, I would only recommend this audiobook to those who are specifically interested in teenage romance narratives. My rating: 1/5, more action, less hand holding

Started well

Started really well, got better and then I hated book 5. Game mechanics were ignored, plot devices thickened and characters acted out of character. Didn't like the storyline or outcome of book 5 either.
