Story
Cath and Wren are identical twins, and until recently they did absolutely everything together. Now they're off to university, and Wren's decided she doesn't want to be one half of a pair any more - she wants to dance, meet boys, go to parties and let loose. It's not so easy for Cath. She's horribly shy and has always buried herself in the fan fiction she writes, where she always knows exactly what to say and can write a romance far more intense than anything she's experienced in real life.

Summary
Wayward Son, the sequel to Carry On, is the stunning YA novel by the best-selling author of Fangirl, Rainbow Rowell. With all of her signature wit and heart, this is Rainbow at her absolute best.
The story is supposed to be over.
Simon Snow did everything he was supposed to do. He beat the villain. He won the war. He even fell in love. Now comes the good part, right? Now comes the happily ever after....
So why can’t Simon Snow get off the couch?
What he needs, according to his best friend, is a change of scenery. He just needs to see himself in a new light.
That’s how Simon and Penny and Baz end up in a vintage convertible, tearing across the American West. They find trouble, of course. (Dragons, vampires, skunk-headed things with shotguns.) And they get lost. They get so lost, they start to wonder whether they ever knew where they were headed in the first place.
With Wayward Son, Rainbow Rowell has written a book for everyone who ever wondered what happened to the Chosen One after he saved the day. And a book for everyone who was ever more curious about the second kiss than the first.
Come on, Simon Snow. Your hero’s journey might be over - but your life has just begun.
Critic reviews
"Euan Morton brings his exceptional narration skills to Rowell's highly anticipated sequel. After defeating the Insidious Humdrum, Simon Snow, unsure what to do with his new life, falls into depression. At the urging of best friend Penelope and boyfriend Baz, the trio embark on a trip to America, driving across the West to 'rescue' their friend Agatha from her self-imposed isolation in the world of Normals. Morton brings distinct voices and emotions to every character — from posh vampire Baz's deep frustration to fast-talking wizard Penelope's snappy repartee, from de-magicked and be-winged Simon's formless longing to a whole bevy of American wizards, vampires, and Native-inspired creatures. Listeners will be hard-pressed to believe they aren't listening to a full-cast production." (H.C. - Audiofile)

SO GOOD!!!
I LOVED IT! I actually avoided the last chapter for a few days because I didn't want to accept that it's over, but now I've heard the ending and (spoiler alert) IT'S NOT OVER!!! (P.S. Baz is THE MOST precious darling and I love him with my entire soul.)

Still preferable to the first volume I think
It is really draining to read a story where a plot development is based on a build-up of frustration arising from lack of communication. Also, I expected better description of fighting scenes. Still love the characters though and developed an unhealthy ship of Baz and Lam 😅

An astonishingly good book
I wasn't sure what to expect as although I enjoyed Carry On it hadn't really stayed with me as a story. However this follow up is just brilliant. Euan's narration has gone up several gears and he does a perfect job of giving each character the perfect tone and personality.
The story itself is great and engaging. If anything it finishes too abruptly. I had to re listen to the last chapter in case I'd missed something however the saga continues with book 3 in the series and I'm now straight into that.
Thoroughly enjoyable. I'll be listening to it again and again.

what happens after happy ever after?
Don't buy this book if you didn't like Carry On. if you DID like Carry On, you'll be delighted to hear the next chapter of Simon, Baz, Penelope and Agatha's lives.
I fell like the narration was ok, but it sounded like the reader was a fair bit older than the characters, which took me a little bit to get used to.

Another great book by Rainbow Rowell
And my first Audible listen (because I knew I’d never get the physical book quickly enough). A great continuation and I’m really happy with the job the narrator has done. I’d recommend you read Fangirl and Carry On first. Amazing!!
