Summary
Bookstore owner Aubrey Barnes likes his quiet, orderly London life, thank you very much. His shop may be struggling, his only employee is a menace, and his plumbing is one creaky pipe away from disaster, but he can handle it. Maybe. He cannot, however, handle the film company that's thrown his Soho street into chaos.
And he definitely can't handle the charismatic American actor Blake Sinclair.
Which is why he's extremely reluctant to lease out his shop as a set for Blake's film, but it's his one opportunity to save his business. Now he can't get away from the distractingly hot actor.
Then Aubrey finds himself alone with Blake in a trailer, and what happens next turns London's heat wave into an inferno that leaves him breathless.
Aubrey is not cut out for the high-profile life of dating a celebrity, especially an American actor who's not even out yet. Good thing their tryst is absolutely not going anywhere.
Of course, when you expect nothing, that's exactly when it starts to mean everything.
Contains mature themes.

Queer version of 50 shades
I saw some reviews saying this was a Queer Notting Hill, but this is far from the truth for one main reason: Notting Hill is well written!!
This is probably one of the worst books I've ever read. It is so shallow and unrelatable. Aubrey is a horrible character: he's always miserable or angry, gets easily offended and mistreats everyone around him, on top of being extremely selfish. But somehow, this gorgeous Hollywood-actor falls for him and likes everything about this unsufferable bookshop owner. I've lost count of how many times he mentions Blake's muscles, his abs, his Godlike face, his penis... He objectifies Blake to a level that is painful to read/listen, but wants to be loved for his "lovely" personality.
The writing is cheesy and immature. It is quite pretentious to write a Romcom in present tense, especially when there's barely any suspense or realistic tension between the characters.
All side characters are poorly written, therefore redundant.
Also, I don't understand why every English gay character is portrayed this way: moody, selfish, rude, shallow, entitled... but somehow they always manage to be irresistible to the easy-going foreigner.
From how shallow all the characters are, I'm assuming they're not based on real humans; but if there's someone out there like Aubrey, I hope I never come across him.

Hurt and happiness
It was a lovely story of hurt and happiness that I could resinate to, like most gay men that have been hurt in the past. It was told perfect by Gary narrating it. Look forward to reading the next book. Highly recommend

Easy listening but there is little new gear
It’s clear that the author is not British given the occasional use of turns of phrase and vocabulary from across the pond. The plot is rather pedestrian with well trodden ‘love story’ themes and tropes. It didn’t light my world on fire but, its familiar watt pad/fanfic-ness got me through some down time and, put a smile on my face in genuinely endearing, if cliché, moments.

Heart warming
I just love it. It was just so heart warming and made me want to read more from the author. It’s simple yes but it’s just Love! Pure and complicated Love.

Beautiful, sweet story
Great read. With odd's stacked against Aubrey & Blake, a sweet story about how beautiful love can be.

Had to listen at 3x speed to get through it
I really wanted to care about these characters, the premise was promising, but the characters make bizarre choices (a blow job seconds after meeting????) and if I have to hear anything about beans ever again I will commit atrocities. If you want smut without plot and can’t be arsed finding fanfiction this will do, but there’s honestly better fanfiction out there with characters you can actually care about

Mixed
I liked the main guy, the story is ok, if a little thin. But the heavy borrowing from Notting Hill just seemed odd and annoyingly unnecessary.

Queer Notting Hill
the book has a similar vibe to Notting Hill, with specyfic British humor. Performance is great, it was a real pleasure to listen to.
