Summary

Vivienne Westwood is one of the icons of our age. Fashion designer, activist, co-creator of punk, global brand and grandmother; a true legend. Her career successfully spanned five decades and her work has influenced millions of people across the world.

For the first and only time, Vivienne Westwood has written a personal memoir, collaborating with award-winning biographer Ian Kelly, to describe the events, people and ideas that shaped her extraordinary life.

Told in all its glamour and glory, and with her unique voice, unexpected perspective and passionate honesty, this is her story.

Critic reviews

"Kelly, a deft biographer, has already written studies of Beau Brummell and Casanova; he is thus a perfect match for the Enlightenment figure Vivienne Westwood aspires to be. The book is billed “as told to”, but one gets the impression it was one long rant, careering off on an uproarious picaresque romp through Westwood’s wild life." (Paperback Review, The Daily Telegraph)

Icon

I started reading this book and Vivienne was alive and I finished it and she had sadly passed. RIP Vivienne.

Compelling and inspiring

Would you consider the audio edition of Vivienne Westwood to be better than the print version?

The narrator was so good, often I thought I was listening to Vivienne Westwood speaking.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Vivienne's tales of hard graft, fashion and revolution is utterly compelling.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yep. I didn't listen to the radio for a week. At the very least this is a really interesting tale, with shocks and laughs aplenty. I also found the messages in the story to be invigorating and an invitation to value my own brain and feed it with better quality information and ideas.

The only obvious down side is in an audio version there are no pictures, but the descriptions of her buffalo phase and pirates collection are quite visual anyway.

Any additional comments?

It's ace. Go for it.
