About this listen
If you like Bernard Cornwell, Conn Iggulden, Simon Scarrow, and David Gemmell, you will love this Viking adventure saga packed with battles, vengeance, blood, and gore.
878 AD, Norway. The fight to secure Harald Fairhair’s throne is over, but one last battle sends a crew of Viking Warriors on a desperate, blood-soaked quest.
Hundr, a Northman with a dog's name...a crew of battle hardened warriors...and a voyage that will determine the fate of Ragnarok itself.
The crew of the warship Seaworm sail the Whale Road across Viking Europe in search of a spear said to have been forged for Odin himself. Ragnhild, Hundr’s sword-sister and Valkyrie Priestess, must recover the mythical weapon if she is to be restored to her order. The Burned Man stands in their way, a vicious warlord bent on vengeance who will stop at nothing to kill Hundr and his old friend Einar the Brawler.
Hundr must join the war for King Alfred’s nascent Kingdom of England and venture home, to the great city of Novgorod. Can he survive brutal attacks and vicious shield wall battles in this fast paced adventure with striking characters and bloodthirsty action?
Valkyrie Rising continues the unmissable Viking historical fiction saga series which began with award-winning author Peter Gibbons' debut novel Viking Blood and Blade.

Oh no …. I can’t listen anymore
Ive just downloaded and listened to the first four books non stop and really enjoyed them …therefore I cannot believe the narrator has been change to someone with a very heavy regional accent… so much so I can’t understand some words … combined with his accents on different characters and pronunciation I just can’t listen to it.
First time ever I’ve returned an audible book !
I’m loving the books so far but it is such a change in narrator I can’t continue.

I went out and bought the book!
Yet again a good story in the series but I couldn't finish the listen and trust me i kept trying. Change in Narrator was the worse decision ever and if the author gave the thumbs up for it I'm shocked. If he didn't then he needs to sack his management team!
Buy the book and lest see what the next new narrator is like for the next installment. Fingers crossed he's better than Paul

Valkyrie Rising
I found it difficult to concentrate on the story as I was distracted every time I heard the title 'Jarl' pronounced as jarl when in the four previous books it was pronounced 'Yarl' by the narrator Nicholas Jordan, this was also the same with the name Hundr. Which in this book was pronounced as Hundra, and Valkyrie was also pronounced differently in the previous books. I am disappointed with these pronunciations, and I would like to know the reasons why this has occurred. I wonder if other listeners felt this way also.

An entertaining story frustrated by a change of narrator.
Peter Gibbons has once again given us an enjoyable romp with plenty of twists and turns as Hundr and company travel the Whale Road on a quest to retrieve an important artefact, getting into all sorts of binds along the way.
The downside with this particular audiobook, in the series, is the change of narrator and with that, the change in voices of the main character’s which lack the nuanced characterisation provided by the previous narrator. I could have coped with this but, when adding in the mispronunciation of various Norse terms (of which there are, unsurprisingly, quite a few) by pronouncing, for example, a hard ‘J’ instead of the soft nordic/germanic ‘j’ as ‘ya’ e.g: for brynja (br-in-ya) instead of BrinJar; einherjar (ein-he-rya) instead of einhedJar. This simple error, I found to be particularly jarring (with a hard ‘J’).
The narration, however, is not all bad and does manage to carry the story along but, I would have preferred a continuation of the story by the previous narrator.

A change... but credit where its due
This narrator had big shoes to fill, the previous narrator was effin amazing and so is this one but he is just not suited to it.
i still very much enjoyed the book and you get used to the change if your not a little nithing, it was a test and you should surpass it
regards the new voice - well done to him for making the different voices his own
an excellent series please continue
