Summary

Recently widowed, Rivkah refuses to submit to the Torah law compelling her to marry her husband's brother and instead flees Kedesh, hoping to use her talents as a scribe to support herself. Without the protections of her father, Kedesh's head priest, and the safety of the city of refuge, Rivkah soon discovers that the cost of recklessness is her own freedom.

Malakhi has secretly loved Rivkah for years, but he never imagined his older brother's death would mean wedding her himself. After her disappearance, he throws himself into the ongoing fight against the Canaanites instead of dwelling on all he has lost. But with impending war looming over Israel, Rivkah's father comes to Malakhi with an impossible request.

As the enemies that Rivkah and Malakhi face from without and within Israel grow more threatening each day, is it too late for the restoration their wounded souls seek?

Heart Melting, Page Turner

I am an avid reader of Connilyn's books and she never disappoints. I got goosebumps with the few mentions of Shira I love the way all the books intertwine. i especially loved that she brought the Ethiopian family back. I was on the edge of my seat. None of her books are predictable, there were many twists I didn't see coming. Character development is on point. i hate when they end. Can't wait for the next one!

Favorite in the series...

This is my favorite book in the series. Cossette is one of my favorite Christian fiction authors and she did a masterful job with this novel. I appreciate the character growth for Rivkah and Malakhi and can relate to many aspects in the story.

Rachel Botchen was decent as the narrator, she just isn’t my favorite. My complaint with her is inconsistency with the pronunciation of names from each novel.

Difficult to follow in some places

I really liked the story but in some places the narrator was not able to transition from one character to the other in voice. They children's voices were done well but the adults there was no distinction between male and female. I would recommend this story to someone else but not someone who had not listened to audible before because their First experience would not be good.

Fascinating listen.

Full, captivating characters. The importance of family. Redemption. I'm sorry it has ended. I want more.

Voice of male characters lost in female narrator

I love C. Cossette 's books. I could list complements indefinitely. It's the 4 stars on performances I must mention. Rachel's skill at speaking the male voices is weak.

Narration was elementary

I forgot after hearing the first book how poor the narration was. overly monologued and not as professional as other authors have. sounds like the author needed a friend to do the audible version. I will do a better job of reviewing the sample audible before I purchase.

Interesting Story Line

Occasionally forgot the reader ( whom I do like to listen to) would be reading a man's part using the same voice as the female part's. I think having a man read the male parts would have been a nice choice to keep the characters differenciated. Especially when listening to a woman's voice for a while and then there is a woman being kissed, and I had forgotten she was reading a man's part. Good story though.

Another good one!

The story of the Prodigal Son from a different perspective. This was a very enjoyable listen and one I'll revisit, I think!

please get a new narrator

loved the 4 books.. however the narrator was horrible.. not to be mean, all of the books narrated by Rachel are a struggle for me.. for such great stories you need a better reader that can do the job..
