You go through the right-hander at something like 170 miles per hour, leant right over, eyes fixed as far down the road as I can see. But this time something happened. Guy Martin can't sit still. He has to keep pushing - both himself and whatever machine he is piloting - to the extreme. He's a doer, not a talker. That applies whether Guy's competing in a self-supported 750-mile mountain bike race across Arizona or trying to reach 300 mph in a standing mile on the 800-horsepower motorbike he built in his shed

Since we last heard from him, Guy Martin has restored a 1983 Williams F1 car then raced Jenson Button in it; helped to build a WWI tank; ridden with Putin's favourite biker gang the Night Wolves; competed on the classic endurance circuit; stood on top of one of Chernobyl's nuclear reactors and taken part in his last ever Isle of Man TT. Then there's the stuff he really can't wait to get out of bed for: 12-hour shifts for a local haulage firm and taytie farming in his new John Deere tractor. Besides all this, he's saved his local pub from closure and become a dad.

A Biker's Life is the dramatic, humorous and candid memoir of one of the most recognisable names in motorcycling. Henry Cole's passion for motorbikes began when, at the age of eight, he was first introduced to a 'man cave'. His great-uncle Redbeard's corrugated iron shed was 'stuffed to the gills with old motorbikes' which Henry helped rebuild and ride. Since then, Henry's life can be charted through the bikes and journeys he has been on....

Summary
Shane ‘Shakey’ Byrne knows what it is like to live on the edge. The most successful rider in British Superbike history, he is the only person to have won the championship six times. Shakey is a living motorbike legend, with legions of fans across the country.
For the first time Shakey tells his life story, from being abandoned as a newborn baby in a London hospital, to multiple brushes with the law and working night shifts on the London Underground to fund his early racing career. Whether it was on his BMX or joyriding through Kent, the only thing Shakey ever wanted to do was race motorbikes.
Once he had got his break, Shakey quickly developed a reputation as one of the most exciting riders of his generation, and the thrill of every victory, every chicane and every overtake, as well as the hospital visits and painstaking recovery, is relived in heart-pumping detail.
Unshakeable is an incredible story of winning and risk-taking, of horrendous crashes in which he nearly lost his life, of Ducatis and monster motorhomes, and of hard-fought glory in one of the most exciting and dangerous sports on the planet. Told with breathless exhilaration, Shakey’s story is one of inspiration, break-neck speed and a life lived truly on, and over, the limit.
Critic reviews
"Shane’s achievements over the years have proved he is the complete racer and undoubtedly a world class rider. A true inspiration for our youngsters in the sport." (Niall Mackenzie, three times British Superbike Champion)
"You don’t get to be six-time British Superbike Champion without having talent and desire." (Wayne Rainey, three-time 500CC world champion)

Excellent Listen.
I thought this was an excellent insight into the life and (dangerous) times of a Champion Motorcycle Racer. I only discovered Motorcycle Racing in the last 10 years and it is a fantastic sport and thoroughly nail-biting. I think Shakey has incapsulated that in his narration. I thoroughly recommend this audio book to anyone who has the slightest interest in the sport. And I have an autographed copy of the hardback too!

Fantastic insight. A must for any fan.
As a long-standing fan of motorcycle racing and remembering the stages of Shane's career progression, it was great to hear what went on behind the title-wining performances and formation of a BSB legend, but also find out more about the man behind the visor. Would wholeheartedly recommend this as a listen. Having the man himself narrating the book made it more authentic and even more enjoyable. Plus the section where we heard the story from his wife's point of view was an added bonus. A career and book to be proud of. Hope that there is second instalment at some point!
