Summary

Tyre destruction, power slides and continuous drooling
Chris Harris has driven more cars than most people could ever dream of. His vast knowledge is legendary. He calls it 'unhinged geekery'. But we call it infectious enthusiasm, adrenaline-fueled escapism and peerless journalistic rigour and integrity.
And then there are his famous skills at the wheel, from city cars to rally cars, F1 to vintage, not forgetting the Guinness World Record 3.4km sideways in an electric car.
And now for the first time, Harris is going all out with that unhinged geekery, and takes us down the road of his life-long adventure with the automobile - from the Scalextric track to the Nürburgring 24 Hour, via his own formative low-powered Somerset version of The Dukes of Hazard.
A highly individual, petrol-soaked life story that's all down to variable valve timings.

LJS in a prelude…..
…..That brought back my years of fellow geekery trawling the stats of Car magazine - for cars I simply couldn’t afford - but I dreamed of. 40 years later and a life of bloody hard work - and I’m fortunate enough to be able to buy (and I have) those poster cars. Chris Harris has enthralled me as much as LJK did (probably more as LJK was ‘of another world’). This is the best motoring book I’ve ‘read’ - but above that. It’s a life book. One I will pass to my 26 year old son, wondering what he does next - because Chris has encompassed where some of us were in the 80’s - not sure of WTF to do - but passionate about a metallic object that just makes us happy. The rest - we just made up and worked bloody hard at. Take a bow Mr Harris. You have become LJK. You sir. Are a legend.

Best book I have listened too in a long time
Really interesting story and upbringing which is captured wonderfully in this book. If you are a petrol head and have heard of Chris, it’s worth a listen.

Honest and direct
I’ve followed Chris’ writing and venture into filming for years but was fascinated to hear all the details that we don’t get to hear enough. Open and honest as always. Loved it!

Absolutely Amazing - Must Read
Just a book about a book nerd and his life. He goes through his life step by step, with completely honesty, picking out key points along the way. I found myself laughing or genuinely crying, and honestly couldn't get enough of it. He talks about key cars he's owned or driven along the way but doesn't go into too much detail, so those less familiar can still follow along. If you want just pure content about his opinions for cars, strongly recommend checking out his Collecting Cars Podcast, but for more insight into Chris Harris, this is definitely one to read.
