About this listen

He never intended to be a cultivator. The heavens have another plan…

Sen never dreamed of ascension. Such were the aspirations of the rich young nobles, not orphans like him, scraping together a meager living on the streets of Orchard’s Reach.

However, when destiny takes an unexpected turn, Sen finds himself thrust into the role of a cultivator’s disciple. Chosen over the nobles who once looked down on him, he is adopted into a makeshift family of three ancient cultivators, each with a lifetime of knowledge and insights. These old monsters will teach Sen everything they can, from the art of the jian and spear to the mysteries of arcane alchemy.

Yet, on the path to defying the heavens, Sen will have to make difficult choices. He needs to decide what kind of person he wants to be, and what mark he wants to leave on the world. Because when his training ends, he will have the power to shake the world. He will also have formidable enemies who will do anything to put him back in his place…

For those who like a bit of slice-of-life with their coming-of-age cultivation tales, this is a can’t-miss listen. Over 3,000,000 views on Royal Road. Click 'Buy Now' to start the journey.

Slow but steady

A good origin story with interesting world building and mechanics. It's a bit of a slow burn, the writer goes into great detail into the Cultivation side and really explains every step. There is some action/battle in the middle and a lot more towards the end, but it's a comparatively small amount. If you are looking for an action packed story with lots of flashy Cultivator battles, this isn't for you.
The books real strength is the characters design. The characters are amazingly written, complex and interesting, all with an undertone of humor running through them. The main characters starts a little bland and niave, but really grows into a confident person with a dry witty humor.
Excellent start to a promising series.

Good Cultivation story

An interesting take on the finer details of cultivation. Certainly recommend it, good story, solid world building. The MC is only slightly frustrating at times due to his total naivety. Am looking forward to book 2

Just a quick one

Very enjoyable, a well thought out cultivator novel with out it being a litrpg. Cultivation novels seem to be lacking on Audible.

A great Origin Story

This is a great effort from the author and I enjoyed the books, so having the audio is also a welcome listen.
Verner had done well in other audios and his narration is a nice listen , feel some of the female parts could be a little different but probably more personal preference. Despite that I feel that having read the 2nd book I would also carry on adding the audio to my library.
I received this as a free listen and have left my own opinion for all to read.

Really enjoyed this

It has been endearingly refreshing to read a cultivation story that is not only not an isekai, but that also takes the time to build the characters into more then ego and over powered strength. I cannot wait to read the next one.

Promising first step

The story feels fresh, gives a less-is-more vibe, and leaves you wishing for the next release.

It also hits all the right spots without having to smash a young master's face in every five minutes.
