About this listen
Sometimes dying isn’t even the worst part of your day.
Mark’s new life begins in the worst possible place—a burned-out village haunted by undead. Each morning these ravenous creatures disappear, only to return at night, driven by a relentless hunger. He'll need to stay low and think quick, because trapped and alone in the body of a child, he can’t level up in this new world. At least not yet.
Soon Mark will learn that even among the living, safety isn’t guaranteed. When the small town that he ends up in turns out to be at the center of a conspiracy that threatens the world, he'll need to uncover the truth before it's too late. Mark will need to find allies, gain levels, and face countless horrors in order to survive his second shot at life and prove that he's more than just a bog-standard hero...
With over 4 million views on Royal Road, this is no ordinary LitRPG. Bog Standard Isekai is a slow-burn, incremental, magical progression fantasy containing slice-of-life elements punctuated by moments of intense violence.

The characters feel real and the world (the village) is written well. I like the mc and the story is interesting.
This is one of the few audiobooks i have listened to multiple times.
I really liked it!

Good story

This began really well. That is until I realized both books were geo-locked to one tiny damn village from a MASSIVE conspiracy.
So....we have ourselves stuck in the tiny starter village trope, in a slow burn (which I like) but with said slow burn obviously catapulting straight into chosen one (as he's already pivotal in a world ending conspiracy with peak global connections and friends).
This author has a ton of raw writing talent, he really does. But he cannot come up with a good story idea to save his life. Please just end this travesty of a story and go reboot. A mundane Isekai with a small, no one special character who slowly works his way up slice-of-life style in a huge world that doesn't revolve around him.
And DECIDE on a class please! What is with this super-melee but no wait, super-mage, no wait, super-crafter no wait ALL OF THEM bs?
Your talent is for writing, not coming up with inventive ideas. Take a level 1 fighter type and just slow grind him up in a huge fantasy world where he isn't anyone special and no global conspiracies abound. It'll sell.
I bought book two, but honestly, I won't bother with book 3 if it comes out. I will however pay close attention to the author to see if he matures and writes a better story.
Seriously Miles, you write fantastically well. Please take the most mundane, uneventful story you can imagine and write the hell out of it. Nothing unique, nothing special. Just Bob average going from lowly fighter to high level adventurer over 20 best selling books while developing his hobbies, making friends and building slow power without shortcuts.
Also please make levels matter. They are completely meaningless in your book and it bothers me. lvl 30s getting iced by un-classed kids is stupid.
Fantastic author, just a shame about the story
