Summary

In 1958, a successful businessman named Robert Monroe began to have experiences that drastically altered his life. Unpredictably, and without his willing it, Monroe found himself leaving his physical body to travel via a "second body" to locales far removed from the physical and spiritual realities of his life. He was inhabiting a place unbounded by life or death.

Monroe recorded these experiences in two best-selling, landmark books, Journeys Out of the Body and Far Journeys. Ultimate Journey, his final and career-defining work, takes us further than we thought possible - and reveals to us what it all means.

Ultimate Journey charts that area which lies "over the edge," beyond the limits of the physical world. It presents us with a map of the "interstate" - the route that opens to us when we leave our physical lives, with their entry and exit ramps, their signposts and their hazards. It also tells us how Monroe found the route and travelled it, and uncovered the reason and the purpose of this pioneering expedition. It is a journey that reveals basic truths about the meaning and purpose of life - and of what lies beyond.

After six hardcover printings, the trade paperback edition of Ultimate Journey, will offer an even wider range of readers this exhilarating reading experience, the masterwork of one of the most daring and original thinkers and explorers of our time.

*thumbs up*

Who was your favorite character and why?

...too many to mention, but the humour alien was pretty awesome!

Which scene did you most enjoy?

...too many to mention.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

potentially

Any additional comments?

I'm not exactly au fait with OOBE lit.- have only read Journeys Out of the Body. Listening to Monroe's books in order doesn't seem to be important. Knowing shedloads about OOBEs doesn't seem to be a prerequisite either. Even for those who'd never had such an experience and didn't know much about the subject, Ultimate Journeys would surely still be interesting and entertaining for anyone with a modicum of open-mindedness and imagination.

Food for thought

A very interesting book, regarding life, death and what’s in between. Definitely worth reading if you’re a seeker of the meaning of life.

Monroe's Final Masterpiece

Most of the concepts and stories related in Ultimate Journey seem to be a follow on from his second book Far Journeys. However, this the last in his series of books is more easy to follow and discusses a number of very profound concepts relating to not only the existence of consciousness following physical death, but the nature of what he refers to as the "time space illusion".

Some of the issues that Monroe delves into will be familiar to those who have followed the works of Jane Roberts who channelled the entity Seth, although Monroe's language and terminology differs to some extent. However, there are some very interesting parallels in that he goes into some detail about the nature of the oversoul or what he terms the "I There". Through his own subjective experiences in out of body states, he demonstrates how each individual consciousness is in actuality an offshoot of a much greater self which realises itself through projection into various time frames which has been popularly termed "reincarnation". Like Seth, Monroe shows that the notion of rebirth is something that has become somewhat distorted in an attempt to make sense of it via the filter of our own logical understanding. All lives it seems are simultaneous, at least from the perspective of the oversoul.

I would say this is probably my favourite of his three books in so far as it challenges many of the long held cherished beliefs prevalent throughout human history, particularly in regards to religion. Monroe wrote from experience, and unlike most other works dealing with this subject it is short on fanciful theorising.

A really good book

I listened to this after listening to William Bulham and I had heard much about the Monroe Institute. This book did not disappoint, and has left me wanting more and wanting myself to become one of the lifeline students who can help people transition.

I wish Mr. Monroe had written more books.

Where does Ultimate Journey rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This is the third and last book of Robert Monroe, I found all three to be excellent and sad when each ended.

What about Kevin Pierce’s performance did you like?

I love his voice and even pace. I absolutely think Kevin Pierce did an excellent reading for all of Robert Monroe’s books. I enjoy listening to him so much that I looked up all the books he has narrated (plenty of books and topics) and ordered one.

Any additional comments?

I want to thank the Monroe Institute(family) for turning these books to audio.

Enlightening, Beautiful, Thought-provoking Journey

"Ultimate Journey" is one of my favorite audiobooks. Robert Monroe was a man ahead of his time and a pioneer in the studies of consciousness, out of body experience or OBE, and even near death experience or NDE. He did some amazing work and made believers out of non-believers. I have another of his audiobooks "Journeys Out of the Body" which I also love.

I've spent a big part of my life interested in this subject as well as studying it. I find it fascinating and a true journey indeed. I'm absolutely certain that this is a book I'll listen to again and again as I know there are deeper meanings to his work. I believe he may have had a spirit guide or tapped into something that helped him explore the limits of consciousness in which there are no limits. He said that he is much more than his physical body. I wholeheartedly believe this and many other things he said were exactly true.

One must approach this subject with an open mind and prepare for limitless possibilities. Robert Monroe would be someone I'd like to have met. I think his work was similar to Jane Roberts with her Seth books. All I can say is wow. I highly recommend listening to this audiobook. Loved it!

Kevin Pierce did such an amazing job with this audiobook. He's truly one of my favorite narrators. I enjoy his work and felt that he reflected the gentle nature of Robert Monroe. He shows professionalism in his work and made this a quality listen. Again, Wow!

Audiobook gifted in exchange for an unbiased review.

Some wisdom, updates, reflections, looking forward

First off, just want to mention that the Narrator, Kevin Pierce, is so good at his job that it is easy to not notice how professional he is. And, the editor too. I always notice when an audiobook has flaws, and when the production is so smooth, it is easy to take it for granted. Kevin Pierce pays attention to what he is reading, so his voice is a perfect presentation of the sentence written. And, whoever edited this audiobook was paying attention too. It's smooth listening, and there are no annoying errors to distract from the listening.

I have the actual book Ultimate Journey. I thought I had read it, but was often surprised while listening to the audiobook because it was as if I was hearing something new.

I love listening to wise old people who have had time to think about what they have learned. In this final book of Robert Monroe's trilogy, he has had time to explore further, and updates us on previous explorations - the people or entities and places he has revisited - and what he has learned since.

His writing is still beautiful, matter-of-fact, and rich in good advice, observations, reflections, and wisdom.

The trilogy is a treasure for someone interested in why we are here.

Ultimate Journey

What made the experience of listening to Ultimate Journey the most enjoyable?

Robert Monroe is good of out of body experience. This audiobook is more about his philosophy then actual out of body travels. Monroe gives his 'experience' on reincarnation, meaning of life, God. He also explains why he thinks the physical realm is a type of hologram. Monroe is either actually exploring the structure of the non-physical universe as he believes or the inner structures in his own brain.

strange and not for me, but perhaps it is for you

Could not finish this, even though I tried very hard. I was so looking forward to this, based on description and many many glowing reviews.

If I wasn't already a believer in OBE, and have met people who have had OBE, this book would convince me otherwise.

The dialog, (such as it was) was strange, and his descriptions of his excursions were both believable in some instances and hallucinatory in others. After a while, I started to feel like his entire body of recollections were nothing more that an assortment of vivid hallucinations and dreams.

Sorry if my opinion offends anyone, but I didn't get it.
