Summary
Richard Dolan's UFOs and the National Security State (Volume 1) has become a classic work of UFO history, a must for all students of this often confusing subject - or simply for those who want a deeper understanding of a key part of 20th-century history. This is the first volume of a two-part detailed chronological narrative of the national security dimensions of the UFO phenomenon from 1941 to the present. Working from hundreds of declassified records and other primary and secondary sources, Dolan centers his investigation on the American military and intelligence communities, demonstrating that they take UFOs seriously indeed.
Included in this volume are the activities of more than 50 military bases relating to UFOs, innumerable violations of sensitive airspace by unknown craft, and analyses of the Roswell controversy, the CIA-sponsored Robertson Panel, and the Condon Committee Report. Dolan highlights the development of civilian anti-secrecy movements, which flourished in the 1950s and 1960s until the adoption of an official government policy and subsequent "closing of the door" during the Nixon administration.

Best ufo series
This was the book after many reads and listens that turned me from sceptic to, let's just say, very interested in learning more, and that's an understatement. This is the first of a series of 3. 1 and 2 are written I believe the 3rd is being written. It's excellent both in info provided and pacing and density of info provided. This author started of as an academic with a speciality in US military history. But got interested in the ufo subject. Its the best book to read if your getting started or are a veteran. Start with this series it's all you'll need.

Fascinating look at the early days of UFOs
A fantastic in depth look at the UFO Phenomenon from pre-WW2 to 1974. Interesting and very well written this should appeal to both experienced UFO readers and newbies.

Hugely Informative
This is without doubt the definitive book on UFO’s and the Government Cover-up spanning from the 1940’s to the early 70’s. I have heard many of these accounts spoken of before but not in such great detail.
I’m disappointed that vol.2 isn’t available on audio yet, but will find and read it on the strength of this Audio Book!

Chronicle of the phenomenon!
The history of UFO research had big and respectable names in the past, but nowadays Mr. Dolan stands almost alone in keeping this subject within the rational realm of check without the spell of belief systems or preset universal views. As the title says, this book is only about the period from 1941 to 1973.
Due to the tremendous disinformation efforts along decades, one would need such a book for a thorough review and clean layout of facts to keep the truth on check.
In The Netherlands, for example, the UFO community knows that at the top of the ladder, within the techno-military realm, the UFO phenomenon is taken more seriously than the war Russia is raging against Ukraine. Also we know that coordination with the US and the UK on the UFO phenomenon is always afoot. Neighboring Belgium and Germany do the same.
This is of course behind the curtain. But this curtain can be very thin for those who believe in their own judgment and conduct their own research for a sufficient period of time. This book is a real treasure for such research.
