Summary
In this revelatory, authoritative portrait of Donald J. Trump and the toxic family that made him, Mary L. Trump, a trained clinical psychologist and Donald’s only niece, shines a bright light on the dark history of their family in order to explain how her uncle became the man who now threatens the world’s health, economic security and social fabric.
Mary Trump spent much of her childhood in her grandparents’ large, imposing house in New York, where Donald and his four siblings grew up. She describes a nightmare of traumas, destructive relationships and a tragic combination of neglect and abuse.
She explains how specific events and general family patterns created the damaged man who currently occupies the Oval Office, including the strange and harmful relationship between Fred Trump and his two oldest sons, Fred Jr. and Donald.
A first-hand witness, Mary brings an incisive wit and unexpected humour to sometimes grim, often confounding family events. She recounts in unsparing detail everything from her uncle Donald’s place in the family spotlight and Ivana’s penchant for regifting to her grandmother’s frequent injuries and illnesses and the appalling way Donald, Fred Trump’s favourite son, dismissed and derided him when he began to succumb to Alzheimer’s.
Numerous pundits, armchair psychologists and journalists have sought to explain Donald Trump’s lethal flaws. Mary Trump has the education, insight and intimate familiarity needed to reveal what makes Donald and the rest of her clan tick. She alone can recount this fascinating, unnerving saga, not just because of her insider’s perspective, but also because she is the only Trump willing to tell the truth about one of the world’s most powerful and dysfunctional families.

Absolutely hilarious from start to finish. If you like Donald, it may make for painful reading, if you were someone who never believed that there was even an ounce of intelligence or strategy withing him, it's a very satisfying laugh riot.

Fascinating book. A chance to peek behind the curtain of the Trump family history and what went into the making of the 45th POTUS. Great narration by the author.

The only time I felt compelled to buy a Trump-book
... and I'm glad I did!
Donald Trump has always been an enigma to me. Turns out only a family member, with a PhD in clinical psychology, has the capability to explain why this man is the way he is. This book is enlightening, intriguing... and if it was purely fictional I would even call it amusing. Unfortunately it's not.

Great insight
Mary has written a book that is frightening in its honesty. It shows how environment and false reinforcement creates a warped individual.
One hopes that people can read this book so they are able to question what is in front of them and awaken thier minds.
Its a book that will help parents teach whats right and wrong and apply rules in a uniform way.
If your a Trump supporter read and question based on evidence on front of you. If you dislike Trump read to avoid making same mistake as Fred.
Really enjoyed this book. Content is engaging. No waffling, almost forensic and overall a must read.

Excellent and better late than never.
It’s good to hear an insiders perspective and Mary Trump certainly gives you that. She gives plausible insight to Donald Trumps bizarre behaviour which explains quite clearly why Donald Trump Is the way he is. It’s a sad story of child abuse and neglect that’s unfortunately led to the world having yet another dangerous leader. If only the people in positions of power surrounding Donald Trump were brave like Mary Trump to call him out instead of kissing his butt, we might have avoided this time in our history. A written account and a good listen.
