Summary

President-elect Donald J. Trump lays out his professional and personal worldview in this classic work—a firsthand account of the rise of America's foremost deal-maker.

"I like thinking big. I always have. To me it's very simple: If you're going to be thinking anyway, you might as well think big." —Donald J. Trump

Here is Trump in action—how he runs his organization and how he runs his life—as he meets the people he needs to meet, chats with family and friends, clashes with enemies, and challenges conventional thinking. But even a maverick plays by rules, and Trump has formulated time-tested guidelines for success. He isolates the common elements in his greatest accomplishments; he shatters myths; he names names, spells out the zeros, and fully reveals the deal-maker's art. And throughout, Trump talks—really talks—about how he does it. Trump: The Art of the Deal is an unguarded look at the mind of a brilliant entrepreneur—the ultimate read for anyone interested in the man behind the spotlight.

A great primer in dealmaking

One great thing about this book is that it sets deals in a real context; not just academic or theoretical. And as with any good coaching, it’s up to the reader to pick up the lessons, they are not just spoon-fed.
The best part is that the Donald’s natural enthusiasm for dealmaking comes through in each chapter, which not only makes it interesting to learn from, but just an interesting read even if the reader has no intention of ever making a deal.
The narrating is done really well. Clear, easy to follow and in a manner which makes listening easy and enjoyable.

Great book covering many business project cases

A great incite into the business mind of Donald Trump. As I am studying for an MBA, this book was recommended as an alternative read to the course text books to offer an overview of real case studies covering many different business projects. Pleased that I didn't listen to the political bias of students that hate without digging deeper.

what a great book.

Love the book, like I love Trump. He is great and the way he tells his story is straight forward and easy to understand. It displays the thoughts of a straight forward guy, with great intentions and great foresight.
To have him as president of the US is truly amazing.

The Real Donald Trump

The tale we are told in the UK by the press is that Donald Trump isn't a real businessman but just someone who was simply a beneficiary of a rich dad. This very enjoyable book gives the lie to all that and if you want to know what makes Donald Trump tick I strongly encourage you to read "The Art of the Deal"

Understanding the President of the USA!

Donald Trump is a Honey Badger! This book explains how Trump hustles and creates opportunity where others only see complexity and futile battle. He sees value in abandoned property, distressed hotels, managing total value, managing details, hiring the best people, and waiting for the "right" price.

He built a staking rink that the NYC government could not. He got Casinos built in Atlantic City that others could not. He fought rent-control fraud. He transitioned from a background in residential construction into into major, iconic construction. The easy thing was probably to quit or never try, how many of us challenge Mayors, Celebrities, and the press on a routine basis.

After reading this book, you will see that Trump is tough as hell and can usually out-last the opposition. Also, there is much of the Cornelius Vanderbilt in Trump. In the book, he is 40, today he is 70, this dude has incredible energy, toughness, and drive - just like Vanderbilt.

Book was written in 1987, he already talks about hiring/promoting women, accepting a gay friend, being bi-partisan, doing business globally. and renting to black people. These were not universal principles back then and show he is much different than the media want to frame him today.

The narrator is awesome, after a while, you actually think it's Trump talking. It's really well done.

Surprisingly enjoyable!

I bought this book intending on getting to understand President Trump better. I wasn't particularly expecting it to be well written, or even less, "enjoyable".

What I got was a three. A better understanding of President Trump, a VERY well written book, and highly enjoyable to listen to!

I can't recommend purchasing this enough!

This Explains It

I listened to this book after Trump was elected POTUS. It's basically the blue print for his campaign.

The guy is crass, unapologetic, manipulative, and relentless in his quest to get a good deal.

Manipulate tax laws or leverage the media to put pressure on others like he did with the Woolman Ice Rink renovation.

Trump is Trump.

This book was written in the 80s. If you're looking for him to pivot... it's not going to happen.

This book gives you a good explanation of how he operates and I was slightly more optimistic about his presidency.

Love him or hate him, this book gives you insight into how Trump operates & thinks.

Narration is good, too with a pompous northeast accent.

Great Book!

Great story about patience and never settling for less than what you want. I like how he never jumped into a deal to fast he had several steps he would make before getting completely involved in anything.
