Summary
Timelike Infinity: the strange region at the end of time where the Xeelee, owners of the universe, are waiting... The second novel in Stephen Baxter's Xeelee sequence.
First there were good times: humankind reached glorious heights, even immortality. Then there were bad times: Earth was occupied by the faceless, brutal Qax. Immortality drugs were confiscated, the human spirit crushed. Earth became a vast factory for alien foodstuffs.
Into this new dark age appears the end of a tunnel through time. Made from exotic matter, it is humanity's greatest engineering project in the pre-Qax era, where the other end of the tunnel remains anchored near Jupiter. When a small group of humans in a makeshift craft outwit the Qax to escape to the past through the tunnel, it is not to warn the people of Earth against the Qax, who are sure to follow them. For these men and women from the future are themselves dangerous fanatics in pursuit of their own bizarre quantum grail.
Michael Poole, architect of the tunnel, must boldly confront the consequences of his genius.

Terrible narration
This is a fun sci-fi story and is classic Baxter, but the narrator is awful and comes up with such strange voices for characters that it makes listening an unpleasant experience.

The reader nearly ruined a good story.
The readers characterisations are poor, hackneyed and lack a sense of realism or integrity, they’re stereotypical.

Fantastic story let down by poor narration
What a mind bending story! Thoroughly enjoyed every moment of it. It’s a shame the that whilst the tone and pace of the narration is brilliant, it’s completely let down by the silly voices used for the female characters.

horrible narrator
amazing ideas and imagination by the author, but it was completely shadowed by the tone of the narrator, who seems to think that doing goofy voices for the characters works better than using the same tone for all the narration. It was really a pain to listen whenever a character talked and I'm sure that ruined the book for me. in retrospective I would've avoided this audiobook and read the series instead.

Terrible narration
I’ve been waiting for this book to be made into an audiobook for decades. I love Baxter’s books. I feel like the fans of his works were severely let down by the choice of narrator. He makes the characters sound…how to put this politely…comical? A parody of itself? Absolutely imbecilic? I persevered only because I love the story but if I were the author I would actually sue Audible for loss of profit.
