Summary

Alex Foster's life is exactly as she wants it. She's quit her job as an English teacher and has decided to hole up in her newly acquired lake house for the summer to try her hand at writing a novel. She has close friends; she has her dog; she plays volleyball. She is content.

Jennifer Wainwright is a wealthy young suburbanite whose life is exactly as she expected it would be. She's married to her high school sweetheart, who is about to inherit his father's law firm. She has friends. And she has the whole summer to work on decorating the new house on the lake she and her husband have just purchased as their summer home. She is content.

A chance meeting over a runaway pooch is the start of a journey for each woman. Over the course of one unbelievable summer set on the beautiful shores of Canandaigua Lake in Upstate New York, these two women will teach one another, learn from one another, question their own beliefs and expectations, and unwittingly fall in love.

Yawn

I like a good lesbian romance. I know what I’m getting. I’m not looking for high literature. But I do prefer not to be bored. Sorry, Georgia; this one isn’t gonna make your greatest hits.

incredible

in a brilliant way ty Georgia, many of us find ourselves wanting to please parents, find ourselves in the wrong relationship, or the wrong body. moral of the story BE YOURSELF and you'll find real friends/family.
Lula Larkin,, special note for an Oscar performance with narration, I have over 700 audible titles and honestly put this in my top ten. her energy and passion, plus the slick change in conversations between character, herself, and character without losing accent is 6☆

Thoroughly enjoyable

This is based on a common theme, straight woman hiding a lesbian desire. Narration was good and the story flowed nicely. The characters were fitting for their parts. I listened to this one straight through with no regrets. The only downside for me was to how homophobic someone’s family (mothers) can be towards one of their grown children. Very sad.

I would recommend use of a credit.

Throughly Enjoyed a Second Time

Years ago I read this book and was looking forward to the audiobook. Wasn’t disappointed! Lulu Larkin is fast becoming one of my favorite narrators. This is a fantastic book with lovely characters and engaging dialogue.

So so story

Didn’t love the narrator. The story wasn’t very exciting either. I was expecting a slow burn and a bit more excitement. Disappointing.

Not Georgia’s best work.

Honestly , it’s hard to rate the book because the narration is so bad. Brutal.
The story is predictable and because the narration is bad, it just never seems to build any chemistry with the characters.
The killer was when Jennifer takes the initiative and Alex thinks, “Good Lord, a sweet little femme with a butch streak.”
Come on, Georgia , I know that you know the difference between a butch and a top, and taking initiative doesn’t make a woman either.
I struggled to get through this one, and usually I enjoy Georgia’s sweet stories.

Another great Georgia Beers Story

I am a huge Georgia Beers fan and this one was as always a good one.

However…I struggled to not return it based on the narrator’s voice. Wow, it was horrible and the very obvious trying to change to a male voice was rough. A good narrator will seamlessly make the transition between characters and this one didn’t. I don’t like being such a tough critic, I just expected more from a Georgia Beers book. I’ll be skipping her books with this narrator in the future. :(

Older book that survives the test of time.

I love that this story finally became an audio book. Lula Larkin is a great narrator. The is very relatable and I can fill it out with years of personal experience.

Not A Fan!

There were three ppl I liked in this book. Those would be the the little family unit. The main characters were sad and annoying. If you like weak ppl that make bad decision after bad decision then by all means this is the book for you. Narration was good but even that couldn't save this. I tried I did but this was just terrible. the lack of a backbone was just too much. If I believed in returns this would be my first.

Is there a question? Of course I loved it

This is a wonderful book, well written story, and well narrated. The MC and some other characters are wonderful, I would have liked few of them as friends.
