Summary

Things No One Will Tell Fat Girls is a manifesto and call to arms for women of all sizes and ages. With smart and sassy eloquence, veteran blogger Jes M. Baker calls on women to be proud of their bodies, fight against fat shaming, and embrace a body-positive worldview to change public perceptions and help women maintain mental health. With the same straightforward tone that catapulted her to national attention when she wrote a public letter addressing the sexist comments of Abercrombie & Fitch's CEO, Jes shares personal experiences along with in-depth research in a way that is approachable, digestible, and empowering. Featuring notable guest authors, Things No One Will Tell Fat Girls is an invitation for all women to reject fat prejudice, learn to love their bodies, and join one of the most progressive and life-changing revolutions in the world.

EVERYONE needs this book

Ive gained a lot of weight recently. I was beating myself up and wanting to diet and realised even when I was skinny I hated myself. it was my mind that needed to change. this book was so helpful. it talks about the root of the war on female bodies and bodies that don't fit the societal idea of pretty. it has really helped me forgive myself and look at myself with a kinder eye. you owe it to yourself to read this with your ears

WOW

would recommend to anyone struggling with body confidence!
The fact that the author reads it, makes it so much better because she writes how she talks, so the whole flow is easy to follow.
This book made me laugh, made me feel more empowered and most of all it actually taught me tips on how to love myself and be unapologetic about the space I take up in this world!!
If you're unsure about this book.. don't be!

Not just for fat girls.

This is a book which, although may have a target audience in the title, every’body’ should read it. Jes doesn’t hold back and the world could use more people like her. Since it is narrated by the author the words have belief and sincerity in them.

One Happy Fat Girl

This is a great book, honest, passionate and fierce. I've followed Jes on Social Media for a long time and only recently read this and it is amazing. Highly recommended wherever you are on your journey to self love and acceptance.

Yes, Yes, Yes!

For the first time, someone has said everything that I have thought or felt. No, I don't want to wear black every chance I get with a "pop of color" so I don't completely disappear into the woodwork. No, I don't want to cover my arms in the 100 degree heat. No, I don't want to listen to you complain about how miserable and fat you are every day of the week when you're 120 lbs soaking wet I am fat and NEVER complain about my weight. No, I don't want to go to Target and shop in the "Pluternity Overflow" department. No, I don't live solely to make everyone around me happy and guess what? I'm pretty god damn fine with that. Thank you, Jes. You're a badass and I appreciate you taking the stand that few of us could. I'm happy with who I am, fat and all. Fuck the haters.

save time. buy the book.

this was really wordy. I felt like it was a lot of lists and she reads fairly slowly. Not really a book that I would ever listen to again. If i had bought a physical copy I am sure that I would use it at some point as a reference. but unfortunately this was not a book that I can say was worth the time to listen to. The information wasnt life changing. but it was interesting enough that I kept going. after a while though I got annoyed with the way the author writes.

If you want to read this I would only recommend a physical copy.

actually for everyone

this book is for anyone who's ever been told that they have to change their body to be worthy and have a voice, including men, women, the fat, the thin, anyone who has been shamed for their body, including if you've been told you need to eat a burger. this is an excellent thought piece, full of compassion, humour and bad words. enjoy!

I really needed this.

I really needed this book. I was sad when I got to the end. I just might read it again. Jes Baker is inspiring and eye opening and fun. I have a new.... better attitude. I have a new found love and appreciation for my body, just as it is. I want to take good care of my body because I love it! Not because I hate it and want to change it. This moment is my life. I don't have to wait until I reach my goal wait to start living my life. This is it. I'm living it now. I'm enjoying it NOW. Fat, thin, average, male or female, this is a good read.

SJW alert

I was with her until she pulled the race card. "Nobody is attracted to black women." black women are expected to be fat. blah blah blah. this is typical of how white women see black women: they only feel sorry for them. Beyoncé body was all the rage. WOC.. anyway, I stopped because I don't need anymore race baiting. it's getting old.

Taking Body Love to a Different Level

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, I have actually recommended it. Especially to my friends (who like me) are in recovery.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The second chapter particularly hit a nerve, actually living your life now and not waiting for some particular event to start living.

Loved it!

I really enjoyed this book. Chock-full of body-positive, woman-positive wisdom. Fun to listen to, but I ended up ordering a used copy of the book because Jes shares so many resources that I really wanted them in black and white. Plus I will go back and read short snippets when I need a good dose of positivity. Highly recommended if you want to feel good about your body and your life NOW.
