Wonderful
I have read all of Lulu Taylor's books, and think this is probably her best, although I loved the first one. This is a marvellous story, involving several intriguing characters and two different time zones, all connected by a large house. The author has very cleverly woven the people and their stories together, with the house always at the centre of the web. The ending is very dramatic, tying up the strands in a satisfying way, with a final surprising twist.
I would recommend this book without hesitation, especially as it is so beautifully narrated.

Enjoyable, if no masterpiece
Some of the dialogue was poorly written and the thought processes of the heroine hard to believe. It borrows from a number of classics, but it’s enjoyable and beautifully read.

Couldn't stop listening!
Absolutely loved it, even though I worked out a few things before the end. One thing in particular, something extremely important to the protagonist, I found glaringly obvious, and it was 'revealed' as a potentially shock moment in the book. I instead said out loud "Well, well. At last, the penny's finally dropped!" This, however, didn't detract from my enjoyment of the story and I found the final twist quite a surprise
Thought the narrator was excellent and thoroughly enjoyed her portrayal of each character. I get irritated when female narrators try too hard to deepen their voices for make characters, etc, but this voice artist got it spot on in my opinion. Found the various accents enjoyable too.
Overall, highly recommended and looking forward to Ms Taylor's next novel.

Not for me
This is a new author for me and although the writing is good I’m afraid I had to return this book. After over 3 hours and 10 chapters nothing really happens. It starts at Charcombe house and centres on Buttercup an annoying woman who is under the thumb (in a subtle way) of her wealthy husband. He seems to adore her but is controlling. There is also a story that goes back and forth to from an earlier era in the same house with characters that again I couldn’t warm to. I may revisit this on kindle as it’s described as a thriller and would hope it picks up pace so will wait for other reviews in case I am missing something very good . I wouldn’t rule out another book from this author but this one didn’t grab me.
