Story
From the London pop scene, to the opera stages of Europe; from a tiny Greek island, to a stifling manor house full of secrets and deceptions; from the sun-drenched Queensland coast, to the silent outback; Angela and Ellie are two women both looking for something. One in search of her identity and her memory; the other in search of the love that she had and lost; theirs is a duet whose last note will not be sung until the heart-stopping climax, when a shadow from the past returns to claim them both.

Story
Long ago the world fell into twilight, when the great empires of old consumed each other in sorcerous cataclysms. In the south the Star Towers fell, swallowed by the sea, while the black glaciers descended upon the northern holdfasts, entombing the cities of Min-Ceruth in ice and sorcery. Then from the ancient empire of Menekar the paladins of Ama came, putting every surviving sorcerer to the sword and cleansing their taint from the land for the radiant glory of their lord.

It's just not the same without Caroline Lee
I immediately added this to my cart when I saw that there was a new Kimberley Freeman novel out. I absolutely ADORE her novels, and they're brought to life by the extremely talented Caroline Lee. I was so disappointed to find out that Lee didn't narrate this one. That's like having a peanut butter and jelly sandwich without the jelly. It stuck, and it was fulfilling, but it just wasn't nearly as satisfying. A great novel, beautifully written as usual, and this narrator did a good job... but I really missed one of my favorite narrators for this one.

A really bad book!
For so many reasons! The author did not bother with any research. Writing a book a bout Russians you would think she had to do at least some. But no. Not the culture, not the language. The people who read the text also could not imitate the Russian accent. Which is very strange considering just how many Russian speakers live in this country. Then there is the story itself - which admittedly I didn’t finish. It was too sappy too mushy too unbelievable. It ignores all realities of life. Please don’t waste your time or credit.

Another great story
The storyline was fantastic. There’s just one thing that I didn’t care for. Other than Sam’s voice I did not care for the other male characters voices. Very harsh and very coarse. For some of the characters it didn’t suit them.

Horrible characters; great narration.
I usually don't start a review with the narration but this book is different. The narration was absolutely fantastic. The story was very interesting but what bothered me most were the main characters. I don't think I've ever read a book with more horrible characters. Lena, Natalia and Sofi are the three main characters in the book and I have a hard time figuring out which one was the worst. Lena was arrogant and vane; Natalia was such a doormat and Sofi was the least unlikable but still came across as whiny and stand offish.
I did finish the book because it did keep my interest through out; mostly because of the fantastic narration.
Usually I like Kimberly Freeman's books, but not this one.
