Summary

A murder with three witnesses. But one of them doesn’t believe what she saw...

Halloween, Whitby. DCI Jim Oldroyd’s daughter Louise is in town with friends for a goth festival. But their visit to an escape room ends in bloody murder when one of the group stabs his girlfriend and flees the scene. It’s a crime with three witnesses - but Louise refuses to take what she saw at face value.

Oldroyd and DS Carter are called in to solve the case, assisted from the sidelines by Louise. But the closer they investigate, the more complex the web of deceit appears. This is no straightforward crime of passion.

With a violent murderer on the loose, it’s only a matter of time before they strike again. And this time it’s personal. Oldroyd must expose the truth, protect his daughter and stop the horror before it’s too late.

Wonderfully bad

Mad plot line, ridiculous dialogue and quite stunning in its comedic delivery. I listened to the end just to see how bad it would get. Supremely awful.

Mediocre

Story was ok but I’m afraid I did not enjoy the narrator. I’m sure he would be good as a single chateacter just not as a multiple voice narrator

Terrible

This is probably the worst book we have ever had for our book club. It’s badly written, has a predictable plot and one dimensional characters . Plot points are telegraphed so much that’s it’s ludicrous. Honestly don’t bother with it.

Good story ruined by awful narration.

The narration was one of the least enjoyable I've ever heard. I wasn't impressed from the start but persevered for a few chapters, hoping that I would get used to the rather ponderous delivery, but things went from bad to worse with the dire attempts at the voices of the different characters. After the scene where the narrator tried to do voices for a female police officer, her teenage daughter, and younger son, I couldn't listen any more.

Appalling narration

This narrator is dreadful and totally spoilt the book.
The story was a bit unbelievable, but I did read to the end, won’t be reading any more though.

Overly long at the end.

Enjoyable as I know Whitby well however, once it became apparent who the murderer was it could have been finished an hour earlier! Endless going over the already known facts. Also the narrators ‘womens’ voices were a bit irritating.

Whitby Murders

An excellent continuation in the series. The storyline has plenty of twists and surprises with plenty of suspense too. Well presented as an audiobook,
Many thanks!

A good Yorkshire Yarn

Loved the backdrop for this story. Makes me want to go back to Whitby 🥰 good characters and interesting plot line. The narrator’s voice took a bit of getting used to but well worth sticking with it.
