Story
My name is Cassidy Porter.... My father, Paul Isaac Porter, was convicted 20 years ago for the brutal murder of a dozen innocent girls. Though I was only eight years old at the time, I am aware-every day of my life-that I am his child, his only son. To protect the world from the poison in my veins, I live a quiet life, off the grid, away from humanity. I promised myself, and my mother, not to infect innocent lives with the darkness that swirls within me, waiting to make itself known. It's a promise I would have kept...if Brynn Cadogan hadn't stumbled into my life.

Summary
In this modern-retelling of "Beauty and the Beast", Savannah Carmichael, betrayed by an unreliable source, returns to her hometown of Danvers, Virginia, with her once-promising journalism career in ruins. Given the opportunity to get back in the game by writing a patriotic human interest piece, Savannah turns her attention to the town hermit, Asher Lee, a wounded veteran who returned to Danvers eight years ago, and hasn't been seen since.
After an IED explosion in Afghanistan took Asher's hand and disfigured half of his face, he's lived a quiet life on the outskirts of Danvers where the locals respect his privacy... that is, until Savannah Carmichael comes calling in a borrowed sundress with a plate of homemade brownies. When Asher agrees to be interviewed by Savannah, he starts feeling things for the beautiful reporter that he hasn't felt in years.
Misfits in small-town Danvers, Savannah and Asher create a bond right away, touching each other's hearts in ways neither thought possible. When a terrible mistake threatens to drive them apart, they'll have to decide if the love they found in one another's arms is strong enough to fight for their hard-won happily ever after.

SIX STARS
What did you love best about The Vixen and the Vet?
Bethany (The Book Bee) and I had talked about buddy-reading The Vixen and The Vet for what seems forever ago, and I’m so darn glad we finally got around to actually doing it! I’m kicking myself for not having read it sooner! I’ve LOVED all of Katy’s books that I’ve had the privilege of reading, so I knew I’d love this one. While Bethany read an e-copy, I listened to the audio version, which is what I recommend you all do. I honestly fell irrevocably in love with this audio book!
Oh, my word! Katy Regnery is brilliant with words and this book was true literary perfection! A passionate, emotional, moving, and downright epic novel, The Vixen and The Vet was a 6-star read for me! A work of art! It’s been a WHILE since I’ve been able to rate anything 6 stars, so I’m elated over the fact that I finally fell in love with a book THAT much again!
This beautifully written romance evoked from me practically every emotion known to mankind! The narration was top-notch and it truly brought this amazing story to life. Rose Hudson nailed it! I was hooked. Once I started listening I could NOT stop. I was 1000% engrossed in this audio book. There were times where I felt as if I was spying on a very intimate conversation between two lovers! And let me just tell you, Asher and Savannah’s story was one heck of a phenomenal romance with quite the buildup!
Asher and Savannah were in many ways similar, but in a lot more ways, just what they each needed in life. They not only completed each other, but they pushed each other to be a better person. Their conversations and interactions were very realistic and easy to follow. I even found myself laughing at some of their sarcastic remarks. The chemistry and connection between the two was pure and the steam factor throughout the book was HOT. Those sex scenes? Oh, my! Nothing even remotely close to those in Katy’s Heart of Montana Series, LOL! Aaaanyway…. There was one part in particular that despite me knowing it would happen, I still felt absolutely crushed!!! Good gosh! I had been nervous and anxious the entire time leading up to that scene and I was left devastated for Asher and Savannah! Like I said above, Katy Regnery has a way with words that will leave you breathless! WONDERFUL.
Truthfully, Asher and Savannah are a couple that will forever be engraved in my heart. This book is truly a MUST READ. One that I HIGHLY recommend you one-click NOW. Katy Regnery is an author you must not miss! SIX BEAUTIFULLY EMOTIONAL STARS!!
What did you like best about this story?
The story and how it was narrated!! EPIC.
Which scene was your favorite?
Their first date!
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

A BREATHTAKING JOURNEY OF TRUST, BETRAYAL & LOVE
This listen pulls at your heart strings, not because of the tender, sweet love story that developed between the beautiful sweet natured Savannah and the scarred hermit Asher, no.... it was the bitter betrayal. You know it's coming but nothing prepares you for the extent of pain that the heartbreaking shocking revelation will cause both Savannah and Asher.
Great addictive bitter-sweet love story as Asher tells of the tragic IED incident that changed his life (which is unfortunately all too real today) and there's a lovely paced yet quick to develop romance because the attraction and chemistry was there from the start as Savannah could look beyond his scars and found the mentally wounded man underneath. Beautiful words and romantic scenes make you feel the love between these two characters. With Savannah's love and support Asher slowly begins to rejoin the living once more but the price he would pay for his misguided trust in her nearly broke him and caused a deeper pain than the IED.
Worth a credit? Dual POV's, supportive secondary characters, sex, all American Hero, a naive Heroine and a good narrator made this a very enjoyable creditworthy listen.

A Modern Tale of Beauty and the Beast
The Vixen and the Vet is a great updated version of Beauty and the Beast. I love that the story is with Asher Lee, a veteran in the military who is injured and disfigured during his tour in the Middle East. He came back to his hometown Danvers, Virgina, isolating himself from the Danvers due to his disfigurement.
Savannah Carmichael came back from New York City after her source has burned her on an investigative article which ruined her journalism career. She thought Asher Lee would make a great human-interest story to jumped start her journalism career.
What Asher and Savannah discovered was that each of them are scarred. One of them is physically scarred and the other is internally scarred. Both discovered that their feeling for each other was helping them to heal and move forward to the future until a terrible mistake threaten their new found happiness.
What I like about this story is that it portrayed how our veterans would returned broken with nothing to look forward to. Asher Lee portrayed all the emotion that comes with people staring at his handicapped and treating him differently. In Asher's case, he is a survivor and live a lonely life until Savannah walked into his life and treated him like a person with no special treatment.
I was looking for the villain in the story who would try to destroyed Asher and Savannah's relationship. It is brilliant of what the author used for the villain.
For anyone who love the story of Beauty and the Beast, this is it with all the modern time updates. It is beautifully told and narrated. I was following the audiobook with the physically copy of the book. I would recommends to get both audio and a printed copy of the book for readers who would read or listen to this story over again.
I also love that the author is donating 25% of sales to Operation Mend which is a wonderful organization to help the severely wounded veterans who are coming home. Some needs counseling and other have to learned how to live with their handicapped which this non-profit organization provides.
I can't wait for the next book by Katy Regnery in A Modern Fairy Tales series.
I was given this audiobook by the author via Audiobook Blast for an honest review. I was not compensated or influenced in any way for writing this review.

Bad Narration
My review is based entirely on the narration, because I didn't get far enough to properly judge the story. I actually couldn't even get through all of the first chapter.
I have disliked narrators before, but this might be the worst I've ever heard. She doesn't have a displeasing voice, but her ability to be an oral reader is virtually nonexistent. First, but not most importantly, her pacing is extremely slow. I increased the speed, but that didn't help, because it sounded odd -- instead of sounding like a faster talker, it just sounds like a slow talker in fast forward.
But, the biggest problem is that it doesn't seem like she's a good performer. Her voice doesn't change from one character to the next. Her voice doesn't even change from one emotion to the next. Her narration is mostly flat and monotone, as if she is just reading words without any awareness of the meaning of those words.
I can't go on, unfortunately. Maybe I'll try to read this in print.

Great Story
What did you like best about this story?
I loved the heartfelt story and the recognition of the American Vets that have come home not as the way they left.
Would you listen to another book narrated by Rose Hudson?
I like Rose's voice but there are many times throughout the book that I felt like it was choppy, just doesn't flow as smoothly as some readers I have listened to.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes, I had trouble "putting it down"
Any additional comments?
I had a few issues with the recording skipping as if there was a mistake in the recording, not sure if it was a download issue on my end or something in the actual recording but was somewhat frustrating. The story was a little more risqué than I normally read but overall the story line was awesome and I greatly enjoyed the read!

Remarkable writing and story line! Tears, passion and more.
This story was so touching and full of love, passion and tears. Katy has a way of writing a scene so real and descript that you feel your living it too. Rose, the voice for the audio version, had me practically speaking in her sweet southern accent by the time I was finished. Many times I would be at my destination but sat in my car a while longer to hear more of Asher and Savannah's story. I love the way Katy writes her love scenes with a delicate choice of words, not crude, yet are some of the most passionate and loving I've read. I highly recommend this book.

The best book of all since September 2011.
I cried. Laughed. Loved. Greaved.
This book almost tore my heart out. Why?
Because their are partners found after a person thinks live is gone with their injuries. Also love is rediscover when our soldiers come home. Not all wounds are visible. I find it hard to remember their is hope when I spend my time in raged. Worst part I lost no one to the horror. I rage for the people I barely know.
