Classic Beth, highly recommend!!

I am so proud of Beth Moore. I have loved and read and listened to her for quite a wile now. It took a lot of courage to go from writing Bible studies to fiction. A LOT. I love this book , listened to it twice right in a row, which is rare for me. Some laugh out loud moments, love the southern humor, and a lot of heartfelt moments. I really cared about the characters and enjoyed her style: she told the story and sketched the characters with dialogue and actions, not long, boring times of introspection. I really liked that.
I loved the quirkiness of the characters and the theme of redemption. Enjoyable Christian fiction can be hard to find.

Thank you, Beth for being brave enough to do this. It is a worthy effort and I look forward to more!!!

Gripping and Thrilling to the Very End

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would highly recommend this book to anyone, particularly of the Christian faith, though you'd enjoy it regardless. It's full of a lot of twists and turns and deep and complex characters that constantly have to re-evaluating everything you know.

What other book might you compare The Undoing of Saint Silvanus to and why?

Honestly the book I would mostly compare it took would be akin to the circle trilogy by Ted Dekker, though the plots are vastly different. It's the feel and the constant shocking moments from both that hit a similar chord.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I wept several times reading this book as I was so invested in the characters by the half-way point.

Any additional comments?

This has actually become my second favorite book ever read, and I'm grateful for having the chance to enjoy it.

Great story!!!

I LOVED the plot!!! I also laughed out loud several times - and that's pretty rare for me. Thoroughly enjoyable book - and the narrator did a fantastic job navigating all the various Southern accents!!!

Are You Religious?

This book is going to be enjoyed by many a Christian reader, unfortunately I am not, nor do I like being preached too. I wish I looked into the authors other books before purchasing this one.

As for the book itself it was okay, not bad, not great. The main character Jillian is quite unlikable until she finds God which makes her story arc cliché. Over all the writing was pretty good, easy to 'see' the story in my head, but I really can't say that I liked anything else about the book. Too preachy.

Just not my style I guess :0)

There were so many "likes" in this book - everything happened "like" something - like John travolta, like something doing this, like something doing that. It was quite long to listen to and really was pretty predictable and drawn out - like something incredible was going to happen but it never did. Love Comes Softly, Jane Eyre or the Anne of Green Gables series are all super listens, as is Newton and Polly!

CORNY!!!!

Why do I allow myself to be fooled by reviews by other readers! I'm astounded that there were some who praised this book so highly. Predictable, corny, annoying, shallow. Where in my world are all these witty people with their glib conversation? I just don't know people who talk like that. I guess I could fairly say I hated this book, especially so towards the end. From the hospital scene forward, it became laborious, but at that point I needed to plod through to the end. Don't recommend this book at all! Oh, and the whiny, teenage-sounding narrator's voice grated on my last nerve.

What a GREAT Book for Beth Moore first book!

This was a great book! I love Beth Moore, and this book was a great listen. The Performance was great also. I loved the way Jillian's grandmother sounded, so dry. While it was mysterious, it was great to see a family come together.

It was okay, but I won't follow this author

I bought this book on a whim, because I am always looking for new authors to enjoy.

The main character starts out as a whiny child, but she gradually becomes a more likable person. I did not expect the heavy Christian messages in the book, and I found amusing the rather ham-handed way that "San Francisco" comes to represent all things decadent and immoral. Overall, the book was okay, but I probably won't seek out any other books by the author.

Loved the story!

I really enjoyed this book. Mixing a love story into a mystery in a perfect way. Gave me goosebumps!
