Summary
The brilliant, chilling debut of Karen White's New York Times best-selling Tradd Street series, featuring a Charleston real estate agent who loves old houses - and the secret histories inside them.
Practical Melanie Middleton hates to admit she can see ghosts. But she's going to have to accept it. An old man she recently met has died, leaving her his historic Tradd Street home, complete with housekeeper, dog - and a family of ghosts anxious to tell her their secrets.
Enter Jack Trenholm, a gorgeous writer obsessed with unsolved mysteries. He has reason to believe that diamonds from the Confederate Treasury are hidden in the house. So he turns the charm on with Melanie, only to discover he's the smitten one....
It turns out Jack's search has caught the attention of a malevolent ghost. Now, Jack and Melanie must unravel a mystery of passion, heartbreak - and even murder.

Wonderfully Written
This book came up as a suggestion because I was looking for something different then my typical read. I figured if it was slow or just plain really bad, I could return it. Well, I didn't return the book. I just bought book 2 so I can continue on with the story. The story was very well written, with great characters and a little bit of the ghostly kind of characters as well. You will not be disappointed at all with this story. The narrator did a very good job. Aimee Bruneau is now my favorite female narrator.

LOVED IT!!!! FABULOUS!!!
Book 3 of the Tradd series was offered on Audible Escape. So, I bought book 1, wanting to start from the beginning. I'M SO GLAD I DID!!! This was a fabulous story! Perfectly spooky, a bit unexpected and sweet. It has romance but no steamy sex scenes, which I personally prefer. And in my opinion, the story was good enough, it didnt need to be propped up by that. If you're normally a romance listener, dont let the lack of sex scenes deter you. The writing was really good, far superior IMHO to the run of the mill romance titles on the market. I can't wait to download book 2.

READ this book!
I love Karen White and her “mysteries within a family” dialogue and this one was good but I really wish I would have read the book myself instead of listening. This was set in the south so the southern voice was there but I am sorry, a southern drawl does not mean the person speaks very slowly. I have grown up in the south and I have not heard anyone speak like this. I love the narrator’s own speaking voice but when she speaks in character (*Especially* men or the elderly) it almost sounds like she can’t read well and is sounding the words out as she goes or that the character has speech problems. It is very frustrating. I tried speeding it up to 1.25 and that worked for when she was in character but not for when she was speaking in between so I had to change it back. I believe this book would be MUCH better reading it yourself.

Do your research
Karen White lost me when one of her characters went to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, NEW YORK, instead of Rochester, Minnesota. Irksome. Otherwise, predictable lightweight book.

Narrator’s Accent
I grew up in Charleston and have never heard an accent or cadences like this reader’s. The story was somewhat intriguing, but the romance story line, like the “Southern” accent, was strained and hard to buy.

Great Read!
I loved the mix of suspense, mystery, romance and paranormal. It was an easy read and the reader did very well in making the characters come alive!

Did Karen white really write this?
This book is so off base from the other stories I've heard by Karen White. This honestly felt like a real time waister, the characters seemed to be stolen from gone with the wind. i can't believe there are 3 of these books.

Mayo Clinic is NOT IN ROCHESTER NY
So that's what stands out for me. This is a fairly predictable romance novel. The characters are obviously good or obviously bad (to you, dear reader - not so obvious to the protagonist). And the outcome (of good over evil) is not ever really in doubt. I liked the discussion of architecture in Charleston. I probably won't read another of her books.
