About this listen

'An absolutely unputdownable read' Grimdark Magazine

The Tyranny of Faith is the epic sequel to the Sunday Times bestselling debut The Justice of Kings, where Sir Konrad Vonvalt - the most powerful and feared of the Emperor's Justices - must face down a growing threat to the Empire.

A Justice's work is never done.

The Battle of Galen's Vale is over, but the war for the Empire's future has just begun. Concerned by rumours that the Magistratum's authority is waning, Sir Konrad Vonvalt returns to Sova to find the capital city gripped by intrigue and whispers of rebellion. In the Senate, patricians speak openly against the Emperor, while fanatics preach holy vengeance on the streets.

Yet facing down these threats to the throne will have to wait, for the Emperor's grandson has been kidnapped - and Vonvalt is charged with rescuing the missing prince. His quest will lead Vonvalt - and his allies Helena, Bressinger and Sir Radomir - to the Empire's southern frontier, where they will once again face the puritanical fury of Bartholomew Claver and his templar knights . . . and a dark power far more terrifying than they could have imagined.

Great book accompanied by a great performance.

The book is amazing and many other reviews will touch on it, but I wanted to take a second and compliment the amazing voice actor who performed it. What a legend

Even better!

First book was already awesome! This second book is even better. Very interesting way to tell a story. Eldrich factor is a lot more present.

Amazing continuation of Helenas story of the fall of an empire

I loved this second book of the series, which takes you deeper into the centre of the empire !

Complex fantasy

Complex, thoughtful fantasy. Lots of angst and fighting too. Brilliantly builds on the events of The Justice of Kings, dragging Helena, Vonvalt, Bressinger and co into imperial politics before sending them off to the far reaches of the empire.
Can't wait for the next one.

Very engaging

I really enjoyed this book, even more than the first which makes a nice change to the typical dull second book setup that you normally have in the fantasy genre.
The narration was perfect Lucy Paterson is a masterful storyteller.

Even better than the first.

Much more rounded and entertaining sequel that brings us deeper into the well imagined worlds.

My Best Read of 2023.

I really enjoyed the first book in this trilogy but I loved this second instalment, probably my favourite book of the year. Unfortunately, we have t wait until February 24 for the third book. Can’t wait.
