Another Excellent Bentley Little Book!
I am so happy to have found this on Audible. As a Little fan, I am often frustrated by the lack of his books available here. Finding "The Town", a book I had not yet read by Little, was like finding an old record by your favorite band you have never heard before!
This story deals with some very heavy things-mostly the idea that humans are always one tiny misstep into chaos societally. We all have the potential to be racist, nasty, cruel and egocentric. Little deals with these themes that we are being confronted with globally in 2020 in such a sly and expert way, many might think his work is just "horror." I guarantee, it is far more than that.
As far as run down of book, the main characters, a family from California who after winning the lottery move back to the fathers hometown of McWayne, Arizona, are made to be both likable and real by Littles expert storytelling. The town they return to very much like many small towns- some decent folk, some very xenophobic folk too. The difference is this small town had some seriously weird stuff going on and soon the whole family must fight for all they are worth against supernatural powers that are far more powerful and mysterious than they could ever imagine.
Little weaves Russian and American West Folklore in with Native American mythology to create a tapestry of unique strangeness and creepiness. I do not think another writer could have made it work!
Excellent book that made me remember why I adore Bentley Little so much.
Lastly, the voice actor is perfect! Hope to hear more from him!
Great book!
Also, AUDIBLE- PLEASE MAKE MORE BENTLEY LITTLE BOOKS!!!!

Terrible
The narration was dry and the story was just boring with a few awful bits thrown in. Like all the time spent on the 12 year old boy who’s sexually attracted to his 17 year old sister.

Downloaded wrong and now can’t listen
I downloaded this a couple weeks ago - there was some strange error and it didn’t download correctly. Won’t allow me to delete and redownload, won’t let me play it - just sits in my library taunting me and if I try from the audible site it just asks if I want to open the app to listen md the loop begins again! I sent a note to Audible when it first Happened and they haven’t ever been able to fix it just refunded my credit so I guess I’ll never actually get to listen to the book. Pretty disappointing.

ugh
I love the ghostly story, but this one falls apart at the end and seems all jumbled. I can no longer tolerate this writers version of horror pornography. I feel dirty after listening to some of these scenarios. I have loved some Bentley Little's books, but this one made me very uncomfortable. Spoiler alert: there is no happy ending, unless you are talking about a young boy jacking off into his sister's panties 🤢

Poor narration and story.
I could not finish it. I would rather hear fingernails on a chalkboard. I love Bentley Little, so maybe the narration killed it for me. For some reason I cannot return.

Worst Bentley Little book EVER.
I'm a fan of Bentley Little and the horror genre. I made it to halfway only because of the excellent narration.
I do not like to post spoilers but will say this book is all over the place. It's hard to follow or hold your attention and rather than scary or even creepy, the boy's sexual obsession with his own sister is positively disgusting. To make that a plot point and to drag it on and on for HOURS is just too much.
I will try more books by this author but will be taking a break from him for awhile. I'm hoping audible allows me to return this trash and have my credit back.

worst book I've heard on Audible
terrible writing, unnecessary detail with incest and masturbation, and the narrator needs to find a new line of work.

Not for me
the graphic descriptions of uncomfortable situations between family members proved to be too much for me.
