Summary

It is said that the practice of dream yoga deepens our awareness during all our experience: the dreams of the night; the dream-like experience of the day; and the bardo experiences after death. Indeed, the practice of dream yoga is a powerful tool of awakening, used for hundreds of years by the great masters of the Tibetan traditions.

Unlike in the Western psychological approach to dreams, the ultimate goal of Tibetan dream yoga is the recognition of the nature of mind or enlightenment itself. "If we cannot carry our practice into sleep," Tenzin Wangyal Rinpoche states, "if we lose ourselves every night, what chance do we have to be aware when death comes? Look to your experience in dreams to know how you will fare in death. Look to your experience of sleep to discover whether or not you are truly awake."

About the author: Tenzin Wangyal Rinpoche is a lama in the Bön tradition of Tibet. He is the founder and director of Ligmincha International, an organization dedicated to the study and practice of the teachings of the Bön tradition. He was born in Amritsar, India, after his parents fled the Chinese invasion of Tibet and received training from both Buddhist and Bön teachers, attaining the degree of Geshe, the highest academic degree of traditional Tibetan culture. He has been in the United States since 1991 and has taught widely in Europe, North and South America, and Asia.

Way more than I hoped for

There is so much substance in this book that it will require a re-run multiple times, but I do not mean this as a bad thing. It is a complete guide.

Interesting

Really liked the practical side as well as the theoretical, well written and motivational. Although I will admit that I’ll have to revisit this one (probably more than once) to fully appreciate it.

terrible reading

I'm sorry that I bought this because of the weighty title and it is by a Tibetan master. I should had listed to the sample first. I am sure the Tibetan master is famous in his field, I know nothing of Tibetan Buddhism, and, so, his devotees probably don't care who reads the book, as the mans gravity carries the message, and all that, but as a random shopper I find the lady reading the book completely out of sink with such a deep subject. For example, when the Lama talks some wisdom to the reader, the woman reading it sounds like she's talking down and patronising the reader. And when the Lama talks about his childhood you hear a female voice.

The other extreme is to get an oriental man to read it but that will be pretending to be the actual guy, which is even sillier.

Overall, the context of the book is great if a bit too esoteric for me. I wanted to only learn about lucid dreaming so I picked the wrong audiobook.
