Summary

To the outside world, Electra D’Aplièse seems to be the woman with everything: as one of the world’s top models, she is beautiful, rich and famous.

Yet beneath the veneer, Electra’s already tenuous control over her state of mind has been rocked by the death of her father, Pa Salt, the elusive billionaire who adopted his six daughters from across the globe. Struggling to cope, she turns to alcohol and drugs. As those around her fear for her health, Electra receives a letter from a complete stranger who claims to be her grandmother.

In 1939, Cecily Huntley-Morgan arrives in Kenya from New York to nurse a broken heart. Staying with her godmother, a member of the infamous Happy Valley set, on the shores of beautiful Lake Naivasha, she meets Bill Forsythe, a notorious bachelor and cattle farmer with close connections to the proud Maasai tribe. But after a shocking discovery and with war looming, Cecily has few options. Moving up into the Wanjohi Valley, she is isolated and alone. Until she meets a young woman in the woods and makes her a promise that will change the course of her life for ever.

Sweeping from Manhattan to the magnificent wide-open plains of Africa, The Sun Sister is the sixth instalment in Lucinda Riley’s multi-million selling epic series, The Seven Sisters.

QUITE DISAPPOINTED

I have read or listened to all of the book in the series so far but found this one very disappointing. The narrator with her monosyllabic tone made listening very uninteresting. Thankfully another took on the charecters story in the past. I will still listen to the nexxt book in the series praying it will be a different narrator.

It got better

I enjoyed it a lot by the end but was disappointed until around halfway through.

A little forced

The characterisation is weak and many parts of the story dragged on and on. The narration lacks the vivacity of Caroline Lee, who narrated the other sisters books. I struggled to finish the book. There was little romantic passion in this book, with damaged male characters. A big disappointment.

Good but...

Good story, but the voice of Electra was a bit odd. Difficult to describe. But the tone of the voice was borderline sarcastic sounding when the situation didn’t call for it.

Ergh the accents

I love Lucinda Riley and I love the Seven Sisters books but sadly this book wasn’t as interesting as the others. I stuck with it to get the end which ha been built up in all the other books . I would recommend READING this book, not listening as the accents are atrocious. The are two narrators both really shouldn’t have bothered with accents and just got on with the story (my biggest complaint about Audible). What accent did Electra even have? It certainly didn’t match the character.

Just wonderful!!!

Another wonderful story from the Seven Sisters Series! I laughed, I cried & most of all I just couldn’t stop listening! I’m a huge fan of Lucinda’s work & these stories just get better & better! Loved the narration too & I’m hoping that it won’t be too long to wait until the 7th sister breezes in to our lives! Thank you!

Another great story

The seven sisters have never failed to grip me. This one I was a little worried about. Electra, rich supermodel was going to be a little tough for me to like. Or so I thought. Her character with all her flaws grew and took me on her journey. Along with Cecily on the remote African plains and an unexpected find that would change the course of her life. If you’ve read the others you won’t be surprised this is so good. If you haven’t start at book 1 and enjoy.

Compelling and beautiful

Another spellbinding book by Lucinda. I was absolutely addicted to the story lines, yet again, and found myself obsessed with the tales of the women involved. Cannot wait for more!

Best narrator of the series. Great story.

This could quite possibly be my favourite book. It has a great pace where others have dragged a little. I think that is mostly driven by the fantastic narrator for Electra. She has a beautiful tone to her voice and really brings the story to life.
