Summary

One loving couple. One surprise guest. One week to destroy everything....

This holiday is the first time my husband, Jeff, and I have been on our own in years, and I want it to be a fresh start. We can walk along the beach, eat ice cream in the bright Spanish sun, and fall in love again.

Then I run into Coco, the girl we all wanted to be at university. She’s just like I remember: effortlessly cool with her blonde hair and her white linen dress. I can’t resist inviting her round to our clifftop villa with its pristine pool, to show off how much Jeff and I have changed.

But when Coco steps from the dusty street into the cool tiled hall, her face freezes in horror. I turn to see Jeff, his eyes wide, his cheeks pale.

They pretend nothing’s wrong, but I know they’re both lying. And when I catch them in whispered conversations, I’m determined to find out what they’re hiding.

But when I confront them, the truth is worse than I could have dreamed.

And when things fall apart, not all of us will walk away....

From the best-selling author S.E. Lynes comes a brilliantly gripping thriller that will have you gasping out loud at the twists. Fans of Paula Hawkins, Lisa Jewell, and Gillian Flynn will love The Summer Holiday.

Banal repetitive with product placements

Yes at the end there was a reveal which almost made it worth ploughing through. I kept meaning to return it but carried on. Cliche people with weird values competitive expressions of wealth.

I loved every minute ❤️

I was hooked from the beginning to the end. I enjoyed both the book and the narrator. They work well together. I can't wait for the next read x

Disappointing

I expected... more. Although it is very well written, the plot twist is quite disappointing.

A good read but…

I enjoyed this and it’s worth a credit, but at the beginning of the book, I found myself a bit frustrated with the main character, I wanted to give her a shake! It eased as the story went on, and I think that was the whole idea of the book but I just couldn’t bring myself to genuinely like her after that.

Good listen

really enjoyed the authors writing style which demonstrated some crafted penmanship. the narrator added value to the read and her voice was very engaging. I felt a little let down by the ending which was largely pretty predictable, and felt a little rushed, consequently unbalancing the text. I would have loved more complexity and perhaps a "darker" more cerebral ending. that said, I enjoyed it overall.

Excellent

Keeps you engaged right to the end. Plot twists I thought I’d guessed, but was provided wrong. A great listen.

Disappointing

I really enjoyed The Baby Shower and The House warming, but this unfortunately was no way near as good. A lot of the book is taken up with inner thoughts or kinds of diary entries and it just took a lot a way from the story, which in itself was pretty dull. Such a shame.

lost interest

Love my long walks listening to Audible books, sadly I completely zoned out after 45 minutes! uninspiring.
If it did improve later on I shall never know, and quite honestly not at all bothered to find out. Glad it was a credit day choice!

Boring and shallow story line

I couldn't get into this. Very annoying main character, shallow plot. The narrating was also over the top. I couldn't finish it because it didn't hold my interest.
