Summary

It’s not easy being the youngest of seven sons in a family of notorious sorcerers, especially for Ayden Dracre. In a world where sorcerers practice only dark magic and wizards practice only light magic, Ayden has a problem: He is very bad at being bad. Try as he might, all of his spells to cause mayhem go awry. When he finds out that his family has had enough of his mistakes, he decides to take destiny into his own hands.

He has one chance to prove to his family that he is worthy of the sorcerer name or he will find himself on the unfortunate end of his mother’s wrath; he must defeat the greatest wizard of all the lands. There are only two problems: He doesn’t know how to fight with magic, and he doesn’t want to hurt anyone. If he’s going to survive this quest, he will have to rely on the most unlikely allies.

Follow Ayden and his friends on three exciting, magic-filled adventures. If you love dragons, magic, adventure, and humor, check out this three-book bundle! Great for the whole family!

Really enjoyed both the story and narrator

I really, really enjoyed these books. The story is great and moves throughout the world introducing many places and characters along with twists and turns. I loved watching Aiden (the main character) as he grew and changed and especially his relationship with Merlin. He is a bit of a whinger in book one, but that is his character and he does grow from there. I think that Merlin is my favourite but sssshhh don't tell Aiden that!

I was really pleased that I could tell which character was speaking by the change in the narrator's voice. It really helped as I could listen without having to work out who was who, it just flowed.

Now that I've finished I'm really going to miss these guys...can't wait to find out what happens next.

Great wizard/sorcerer quest adventure

Much of this book has the feel of a fantasy classic. There are many likable characters and more on the life and times of Merlin. I liked the stories and various quests, and the villains are well thought out and devious.

Two things that struck as off with the stories...the author should probably keep modern politics out of the story (why risk potentially alienating half of your audience just for a laugh?), and mix things up a little. Each story seems to be a slow buildup of about 20 chapters, ending with a climax that is just over too soon. The stories just seem to deserve more of an epic conclusion, considering all the time the writer and audience have invested in them.

The narration is quite good, but I had the feeling that the main character just sounded a little bit older than I imagined he should have. Otherwise, I really enjoyed the voices and excitement brought by the narrator.

I was given a free copy of this audiobook in exchange for an unbiased review,

The stories are good enough that I have sought out other stories by the same author.

Went on a bit

Not sure if this is meant to be for children or adults. It was a bit of a fairy tale. There was some humour in it but overall it was too long and the reader was slightly irritating.
