About this listen
Rescued from slavers, healer novice Jaime Buchanan finds himself alone and free in Pyrderi, a kingdom of magic, mythical creatures, and a culture as open and kind as his homeland was cruel and close-minded. Despite his rescue, Jaime is not left without scars, both mental and physical.
Traumatized by his experience and hiding his gift, Jaime struggles to earn his place in the kitchens of Angharad Palace, the heart of Taliesin City. His former life as a student of the healing arts leaves him at a disadvantage in the kitchens, and his damaged state is becoming more apparent by the day.
One day, when necessity and fate intervene, Jaime meets someone unexpected - Prince Maxim, youngest son of the Pyrderian King, a sword master and a devastatingly kind man. Unaccustomed to powerful people with compassion and heart, Jaime flees. A cascade of events reveals Jaime's hidden talents of healing, and he finds himself not in chains, but at the beginning of a new life. This swift change of fortune opens Jaime up to new possibilities, including a smitten prince who cautiously courts Jaime, easing him away from his fears and reminding him that compassion and love can make him strong.
The winter solstice is quickly approaching, and Prince Maxim shows Jaime the enjoyment and excitement to be found in a land that embraces the ice and cold, and the mysteries of all things magical. He learns to see the man under the royal mantle, and Maxim is more than even Jaime suspected. The winter solstice is nigh when tragedy strikes, and Jaime learns that his past of grief and sorrow can be a pillar of strength for his solstice prince. If there is one thing that Jaime believes above all else, it is in the healing power of love. Contains mature themes.

Nice
This book feels like a hug or a warm cup of tea. With a simple storyline but was fun to listen to.

Having come from some high-stakes fantasy, this was a lovely palette cleanser
A beautiful, well-constructed, vividly-described tale that follows a simple yet beautifully rewarding happily ever after.

Pure enjoyment.
Having read the book I was aware of the story and was keen to listen to the audio book. Once again Joel Leslie Froom has done an amazing job narrating. His warmth and humour shining through the performance and script. I particular enjoyed the use of Welsh accents! Something i wasn't anticipating at all but made the book particularly cosy.
This is a lovely fantasy mm novel that is written well and weaves a wonderful tale around a new but familiar world.

Lovely
This is such a lovely little love story, the main characters are likeable and, as usual, Joel Leslie is a great narrator

Loved it, I can't wait until the next book
I own this book on kindle and was ecstatic when the author asked for people willing to listen to and review the audible book.
Joel Leslie was also the narrator for other of this author's books and did wonderful on them. This book is no different.
The story comes to life under his voice and makes the book even better.
The story is loving and sweet and will keep the reader/listener tuning in until the very end.

Another hit
I have listened to this audio book 3 times already! This only problem? If is too short! I wanted more. The main characters are so sweet. The story is low angst and feel good.

A nice little story, but unfortunately not done justice by the reader.
The story is a nice little love story, but the way the reader sounds permanently out of breath and surprised as if he’s being threatened by someone to read the book for the first time somewhat ruins the experience.

sweet love story
it's a sweet love story but not much else, I like that there's no forced drama between the two characters. it's just an easy listen, though the narrator seem to use similar voices for a lot of characters so gets a little muddled in parts working out who's speaking. overall not a bad listen but not sure if I would highly recommend
