Horrible narrator!
Love Karin Slaughter, but this one was ruined for me by the narrator's awful "cartoony" voices - the "Nick" policeman, for instance, was completely ridiculous – made him sound like a really bad comedy turn. Such a shame.

Horrified by narrator
Big fan of Karin Slaughter and it was a decent enough story although I felt it didn’t get going until two thirds in. The narration, however, I am in absolute shock. The cartoony voices of just about every male character were bad enough but the entirely offensive “yessum” Bubba-style characterisation of Lena? What??? Horrified. Almost had to stop listening. Firstly, does the narrator even know anything about this character? This is not a South Georgia accent she would have by any stretch of the imagination and honestly I feel it needs to be re-recorded.

Narrator ruins it
I usually really enjoy Karen Slaughter, especially the Will Trent stories, however, this is one of the worst performances I have heard. She has a lovely speaking voice when just telling the story, but the character voices are dreadful. The females are really whiny, especially Faith and the males just sound a bit dense. The book is 18 hours long and really it’s a bit unfair of me to rate the story before I finish it, but 3 hours in I cannot tolerate the narrator any longer. Recommend you download a clip before purchasing to listen for yourself.

Disappointing story and narrator
Disappointed, story disjointed and narrator's voices grating and did not help the story any. If this was the first Karin Slaughter book I had listened to it would be the last.

Disappointing and not up to the same standards.
I was disappointed with The Silent Wife for a number of reasons. The crime story was not as gripping as in previous books in the series. In fact I guessed the culprit very early on. In addition, the romance storyline between Will and Sarah was far too dragged out. Even for a pair of emotionally damaged people, their poor communication was ridiculous, and their inability to understand each other makes their whole relationship implausible. Finally I am sorry to say that the narration was cartoonish at times, with over-the-top voices for quite a few of the characters. It was a distraction at times.
Usually I finish a Karin Slaughter book and can't wait for the next one to come out but after The Silent Wife I have lost interest in the adventures of Will Trent. (I would love a book focussed on Faith though).

Not great
Narrator was very shouty and not in tune with the story, put me off completely!! And the actual story wasnt very original, lots of padding around it, I assume too create volume, just wanted it to end.

What a shame, the narrator was awful
I usually enjoy the Will Trent stories, but this narrator is just awful. Whatever did she think she was doing? Especially the male characters. Even an American would not recognise this as a southern accent, but she carried on regardless. Spoilt the experience of listening to this book. A great shame.

Love this series
I’ve enjoyed this series over the years both reading and listening. This didn’t disappoint.
It was a then and now scenario, which is very popular with authors but it was clear throughout which timeline we were in.
My only issue, and it’s probably churlish, was some of the narration. Particularly Lena, whom I dislike intensely due to the fact she has no redeeming qualities (though I think that’s an important part of the series), I didn’t feel her voice was in keeping with her character from the years of reading the books she’s part of.
