Summary
Only when the darkness falls can you see the light of the stars.
For thousands of years, the scribes and singers of the Irin race have existed to protect humanity and guard the gifts of the Forgiven. They have lived in the shadows. They have kept their secrets.
But the Irin aren't the only race with secrets.
Ava and Malachi have survived the darkness, but will they ever discover the light? A powerful cabal of the Fallen may hold the answers, but to surrender them, it wants the Irin race to finally face their enemies. Both those coming from the outside and those raging within.
The Secret is the third book in the contemporary fantasy series, the Irin Chronicles, and the conclusion of Ava and Malachi's journey.

Fantastic story
Love this series and it just got better and better! The narrator is great too- his accents aren’t the best but he brings the story alive and makes you really feel for the characters.
If you like hard hitting but romantic fantasy, you’ll love this.

Fantastic plot and storytelling
Elizabeth Hunter is a goddess of the written word, great ideas, execution of said ideas, worldbuilding and storytelling. Amen. I adore this series. They make my imagination go wild in joy, wind up my nerves and frankly put dread in my stomach, might be overly invested in the characters. Don´t think any other stories get this hold on me while listening. Get so totally engrossed. Zachary Webber narrating is furthermore a stroke of genius. Making the first three books of the Irin Chronicles The Gospel of Fantasy in my book. Awesome!

Satisfying conclusion
Although Elizabeth Hunter has written more Irin stories, this is the conclusion of the main trilogy. And it's good. (So are the spin offs - read them, until they are available to listen to!)
I've given 4 stars for the narrator this time, as he really has not researched European pronunciations AT ALL. Americans are intelligent people. I know some. And the guy is an actor so he should know better. That apart, he does a fine job again.

I am for Ava!
Elizabeth Hunter saved the best for the last. This book finally delivered the answers to the questions that I have grappled with since book 1. It's nice to have a story finally draw together all the loose ends. I think this was Zachary Webber's best work. He was awesome in his delivery!
Ava and Malachi experience a role reversal, as Ava found herself trying to help Malachi rediscover his past and his history. It was nice to finally see them as a couple and dreaming together.
What I loved best about this book was that Love and Family was front and center. Everything boiled down to relationships. I was so engaged in the audiobook. I finally saw what others have been saying about Elizabeth Hunter's storytelling. This book delivered action, romance, great plot etc. I was pleased with the conclusion, but even more so with the fact that I know it's not the end. I can't wait for the other Irin to find their mates.
Bravo!!

3.5 stars. A satisfying Happy Ever After.
Book 3 in Elizabeth Hunter’s Irin Chronicles, THE SECRET, wraps up Ava and Malachi’s romance after the long tensions of book 2, THE SINGER.
Questions about Ava’s powers, where she belongs in the Irin world, where she comes from, are all answered here. With or without Malachi by her side, she is a force to be reckoned with. Stubborn, wilful, independent and powerful, she can teach the Irin race a thing or two.
Ava and Malachi are so deeply bonded, they are incomplete without the other. From different worlds, they must find peace within themselves and each other to co-exist and share a long life together. This novel tracks their journey that catapults them into their happy ever after. I enjoyed how they expressed their pure, mature love. Elizabeth Hunter created a complex world with admirable main characters. And if you want good friends and camaraderie, action, adventure, suspense, good vs evil, power plays, politics - you'll find Ava and Malachi nurturing or battling all those here.
THE SECRET finished with a happy ever after for Ava and Malachi. However, lovers of this world can indulge in it some more. There are further novels in the series about secondary characters featured in Ava and Malachi' trilogy.
I listened on Audible. The wonderful Zachary Webber narrated. His voice characterisations for all the players are perfect and he elevates my enjoyment of any book, including this trilogy. I was particularly struck by the perfect and varying accents he uses. I’d love to hear an entire story narrated by Zachary Webber using a British accent. Sigh.

A fantastic conclusion to Ava & Malachi's story!
Where does The Secret rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
It's one of the best audiobooks I've ever listened to, and I really wasn't quite ready for it to end.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Secret?
Ch. 19 - The completion of Ava and Malachi's mating ritual was incredibly beautiful.
Which character – as performed by Zachary Webber – was your favorite?
Malachi was my favorite character. I loved his instinct to protect Ava at all costs. I also really enjoyed the suspense surrounding his memory loss, Ava's heritage and Jaron's true purpose in shielding her.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Malachi and Ava, Rhys and Malachi, and even the black cat definitely made me laugh more than a time or two. I also enjoyed puzzling over Ava's parentage and Jaron's connection to her.
Any additional comments?
I loved Malachi's reaction to seeing his mating mark, 'I am for Ava' over Ava's heart. I wanted to immediately reread their story. I love when I have that reaction. I missed Zachary Webber reading to me so much that I bumped up another audiobook read on my WTR list just to hear his narration again. I really hope that any future Irin Chronicles novels are narrated by Zach.

series arc climax
Ava and Malachi search for, and finally find, the answers about her parents and grandparents. These family secrets, and that of the kareshta, could be very volatile; they have the potential to change Irin society.
We learn more about the structure and history of Irin society as the Irina work to resurrect their own council.
Jaron, Barak, Vasu, and Kostas arrive in Vienna to battle against Volund, Grimold, and the Grigori. Will they achieve forgiveness?
Even though I wish the 3 books of this series arc could have been condensed into 2, I’m curious enough to hear the stories for Leo, Rhys, and Kyra.
Webber does a decent job of narration.

Amazing story
It was so enjoyable I bought the audio after reading all 3 books. Fascinating story line and the narrator should be commended for his incredible talent to portray so many accents. He truly brought the characters to life.
I hope the story continues because I want to see a happy ending for all the other well developed characters.
I especially liked the moral to the story, and yes all stories have a moral. This one was sincerely on love. However I focused on the love that was able to conqueror all which was not the main characters, but in fact the love of a father to his child.
Please continue the series.
