Interesting plot, not much romance

The overall plot of this trilogy, along with Rosalyn Landor's narration, is the reason I enjoy this series. The actual 'romance' of the first book was ok but for this second entry in the series I found myself rolling my eyes at the more 'romantic' or sexually charged scenes. It all just falls a bit flat and sounds very formulaic; the characters are believable up until the moment they have to interact with each other in a romantic or sexual manner, at which point it starts to feel like the interactions of cardboard cut-outs. Without wanting to give away spoilers, there are some hints that there are plot reasons as to why this happens but these hints are quite weak and it can't really excuse the lack of believability in the writing. Having said all that, the writer is definitely doing something right as I am still interested enough to buy the final book to find out what happens.
