About this listen

Overstrand 1895. Lawrence Harpham and Violet Smith are witnesses to suicide while on holiday. Beneath the body lies a bible belonging to a murdered man. Clues lead to the violent death of a bookseller and a chilling confession from the past.

From Norfolk to Liverpool, investigations point to the unsolved murder of Fanny Nunn in the town of Diss. But how are the murders connected? Why do the parish registers contain so many unnatural deaths? As Lawrence and Violet close in on the killer, Lawrence discovers a long-kept secret about his wife’s death. Can he overcome his demons, and will they stop the murders before more lives are lost?

Ok. Let’s get Liverpool out of the way first. Liverpool is NOT by the sea and never smells like sea salt. A dockyard is where ships are built and repaired. Liverpool had docks. (And breathe...) Despite this the story is fine if not as engaging as some others in the series but the relationship between the two leads is coming along nicely. I look forward to the rest in the series.

Clunking errors were annoying but not fatal

I really enjoyed this book, and unlike the previous two, which I had to read on Kindle, I could listen and do my knitting at the same time! The narration is ok, passable. But the story and characters are excellent. I do like Violet, but can't help but feel she deserves better than Lawrence.
I have got the next two books, but they're not on audible yet. I can't wait to find out what happens next, so I suppose I will just have to put the knitting to one side.

Enthralling Listen - thoroughly recommend.
