About this listen

August, 1940. On the streets of London, locals watch with growing concern as German fighter planes plague the city’s skyline. But inside the famous Ritz Hotel, the cream of society continues to enjoy all the glamour and comfort that money can buy during wartime - until an anonymous man is discovered with his throat slashed open.

Detective Chief Inspector Coburg is called in to investigate, ably assisted by his trusty colleague, Sergeant Lampson. With the crime committed in rooms in use by an exiled king and his retinue, there are those who fear diplomatic repercussions and would rather the case be forgotten. Coburg and Lampson must untangle a web of deception if they are to solve the case - and survive.

Murder At The Ritz.

Having read & then listened to all Jim Eldridges Museum Mysteries, this is two or three steps up.....it's amazing! Fantastic story. Believable characters. Wonderful narrator. Happy & sad bits too. Yes, I cried listening to a few chapters! Really looking forward to the other stories in this series. We'll worth even buying a credit for.

Gteat

Very entertaining a very good performance from the narrator. It will be interesting to see if book two is as good - I hope so.

Not as cozy as feared

I started reading the museum books but didn’t get along with them so had very low hopes for this. Thankfully I was pleasantly surprised. Not cozy, not twee and great characters. Several nicely perceptive moments on the subject of class and a death that would fit neatly into any horror movie!

Great story

Another enjoyable listen, well read by David Thorpe. It does help that I seem to be listening to these in reverse order, but enjoyable nonetheless.

a wartime murder mystery

I've listened to the museum mysteries bynthe same author and loved those, so this was the next step. I really enjoyed the vocal characterisation by the narrator and the story was gripping and twisty turny. I'll definitely be listening to the next one.

Only half a book

I bought the whole book with a credit. I was really enjoying it and getting into the story. Then it stopped playing. It only downloaded the first 7 chapters. Whatever i do i cant get it to download the rest of the book. Feel a bit cheated

Great characters but pedestrian story

I was disappointed by this book even though the main characters are well-defined and likeable. The plot was weak and the story went on for too long The plot was weak and the story went on for too long. But I will read book 2 since the Museum series is so good - hopefully this series can get better.

Rather predictable and in places twee

Far too predictable.

Plot-lines not very original, side plots even more so, excruciating in places. Difficult to say more without giving too much away.

A pity as the general premise is potentially interesting.
