About this listen
When Elizabeth drops her beloved only daughter off at college, she holds back the tears…fighting her worries about an empty nest with the thought of all the adventures that she and her husband Joel can now enjoy together. But as soon as they sit down to eat dinner that evening, Joel drops a bombshell. He wants a break.
Searching for an escape, Elizabeth discovers an apartment in Rome that is only available for three months rental to ‘an English woman of a certain age’. She reads on to find out the philosophy of Veronica, the 75-year-old owner, is that there is always joy to be found, however difficult the circumstances, and that it is an insult to the gift of life to not live it joyfully and fully – and that there is no better place to make this happen than Rome, the most beautiful city in the world.
Elizabeth accepts the challenge, and on arrival, finds that Veronica has a numbered list of challenges for her.

True
These are thoughts and feelings women of this character’s age have thought. The fantasy of escaping is realised, while the pressure to stay with established routine is acknowledged.
To whom do we owe loyalty? Ourselves or others? Which is wrong…. Or right….

Lovely story
Thoroughly enjoyed this book. The descriptions of Rome were delightful - I've never been and am even more determined to visit since listening to this book.
It's so easy to see how women allow themselves to be swayed by the needs of others and feel guilty for indulging their own interests and passions. But this tale of a woman who slowly blossoms into herself is lovely to witness.
I look forward to reading the sequel.

A unexpected Gem
I came across this book/author by accident, and so pleased I did. The story is so real and parts resonated with me. I also relived my week in Rome with my daughter who had just graduated, her delight at seeing the statues and buildings she had studied stays with me. I was so excited to see there are 2 more books so I’m off back to Rome x

Excellent
I particularly loved that this book was set in Rome. I love Italy and she brought it to life for me interwoven with the main characters life. Congratulations…again … on your writing and of course to Emma your narrator who reads your words with just the right amount of care and emotion. Many, many thanks to you both.

Relatable and hopeful story
So many people will understand the characters and relate to being a mother, a wife and then learning to be yourself again. Italy was the best back drop and Rome intrigued me to listen to this book.
I am researching a move to Italy!
I love Kerry 's writing and already looking for her next book to listen to. I highly recommend the Rome Apartment to mums of daughters too. It resonated with me, thank you Kerry x
