Summary
When Lydia was a teenager, she made a decision that ruined her family's life. They've spent the last 30 years living with the consequences and doing their best to pretend it never happened.
Lydia's husband, the gorgeous and reliable Mark, and her two teenage children know nothing about that summer back in 1982. And that's the way Lydia wants it to stay. The opportunity to come clean is long gone, and now it's not the lie that matters; it's the betrayal of hiding the truth for so long.
When someone from the past turns up as a parent at the school gates, Lydia feels the life she has worked so hard to build slipping through her fingers. The more desperate she becomes to safeguard her family, the more erratic her behaviour becomes. But when the happiness of her own teenage son, Jamie, hangs in the balance, Lydia is forced to make some impossible decisions. Can she protect him and still keep her own secret - and if she doesn't, will her marriage and family survive?

Disappointing.
Any additional comments?
The lie is far too unsubstantial. ‘After the Lie’ has a rather weak storyline added to which being told in the first person, only serves to create a rather dull, self-obsessed main character, Lydia.
Narration is excellent.

mediocre
I finished it just because I cant bear to finish a book I have started, but it felt like kerry was telling a story that she didn't feel entirely comfortable in telling - like even she couldn't quite believe her own characters. lydia started off so miserable and argumentative when I'm not sure she would have been that way if she were really trying to keep things with Sean a secret!
Emma seems to find it difficult to add tone to teenagers in more than one way - all of Kerry's female teens have been read with the same bored buy questioning tones. very dull.
it's a shame, because I've loved all of Kerry's other books!

Obsessive, possessive, protective and pathetic Lydia
Well now what can one say about this book? A good story, essentially a domestic drama about the most pathetic weak and obsessive character I have ever read about. Yet the likes of Lydia does exist. She has about as much spine as a jellyfish and Kerry fisher has done a great job of creating her. A guilty secret from the past and an exzggerated reaction to it. Lydia couldn’t boil an egg without making a drama out of it but she’s real. The book itself is interesting. It basically tells the story of one woman’s struggle to deal with life and most of it is of ehr own making. You could seriously learn to hate her because Lydia has absolutely no redeeming characteristics but that aside it’s well told and thought out though the narator sounds as if there are a million things she’d rather be doing than reading this title.

Scarily close for comfort!
This book was difficult yet compelling for me to hear/read. The emotions running throughout and the situations from which hit scarily close to home for me!
Although initially I struggled to understand the motives behind some of the actions of the characters, the deeper I got into the story the more I realised that my discomfort was a symptom of my own transference.
This book is beautifully written and read. It deals with topics and fears so relevant in today's society whilst seamlessly linking back to woes of yesteryear. Each character is so wonderfully constructed and believable.
I am delighted with my first chosen and completed read of 2018! The bar has been set outrageously high for all my reads to follow.
Thank you Kerry Fisher for a totally immersive and poignant beginning to my year!

Brilliantly written
From the very beginning I was immersed in the funny descriptions and observations of life. The great use of language along with a strong empathy with the main character makes this story unputdownable for me. I really loved it! Going to see out more books by this writer.
