Summary
The #1 New York Times bestselling author of Year One and Of Blood and Bone concludes her stunning new trilogy praised as “A match for end-of-the-world classics like Stephen King’s The Stand.”
After the sickness known as the Doom destroyed civilization, magick has become commonplace, and Fallon Swift has spent her young years learning its ways. Fallon cannot live in peace until she frees those who have been preyed upon by the government or the fanatical Purity Warriors, endlessly hunted or locked up in laboratories, brutalized for years on end. She is determined to save even those who have been complicit with this evil out of fear or weakness - if, indeed, they can be saved.
Strengthened by the bond she shares with her fellow warrior, Duncan, Fallon has already succeeded in rescuing countless shifters and elves and ordinary humans. Now she must help them heal - and rediscover the light and faith within themselves. For although from the time of her birth, she has been The One, she is still only one. And as she faces down an old nemesis, sets her sights on the enemy’s stronghold, and pursues her destiny - to finally restore the mystical shield that once protected them all - she will need an army behind her....
Critic reviews
"[Julia] Whelan's ability to portray a large cast of characters, giving each a unique voice, is laudable. Each character is discernible from the rest — no matter their gender, age, or regional accent. Her soothing tone and even pacing keep the lengthy story moving for the listener. Overall, Whelan deftly presents another production worth listening to." —AudioFile Magazine

AMAZING!!!!
This was prophetic in nature, I started the trilogy during burger if the pandemic & felt it captured life so brilliantly, thoughtful, scary, beautiful, touching and one of the best trilogies I’ve read. I’ve never enjoyed an audible so much (especially considering the length!) I am now. Nora Roberts super fan.
Studio Execs MAKE THIS a MOVIE TRILOGY! So much better than the sappy, poorly written twilight rubbish, or faded hunger games. Read it!!

Not great.
I got book 2 in the sale - write up & reviews were good so I got the other two as well. I don’t really know why I persevered. The characters are really one dimensional - either good or bad, either with the heroine or against. The good people were saccharine sweet & some of the dialogue made me cringe. They only fight for the light and are wonderful people. But then there’s the fighting. This author just can’t do fighting & bearing in mind there is so much going on, it’s a bit of a major flaw. There’s a huge amount of build up for the offensives & then e.g. the taking of major city is boiled down to one fight between two magic users. Maybe the author should stick to romantic fiction - that’s what this is & the fantasy elements seem to be to cash in on the genre rather than being convincing. The narration wasn’t to my taste either, much more suited to romantic fiction than fantasy. This has not made me want to get anything else by this author.

Really sentimental drivel
If it wasn’t for the swearing I’d say one for the kids . Don’t waste your money.

Not for me
Simply not for me. War, battle, war and more war, from someone who, I'm pretty sure, never experienced anything even remotely close to it. Gave up after 45 minutes.
