Summary

‘A fabulously funny celestial crime caper, full of wit, warmth and heart.’ Helen Lederer

How do you solve your own murder when you’re already dead?

Purgatory (noun):
1. Where the dead are sent to atone.
2. A place of suffering or torment.
3. A youth hostel where the occupants play Scrabble and the mattresses are paper thin.

When Dave wakes up in his own personal purgatory (St Ives Youth Hostel circa 1992), he’s shocked to discover he’s dead. And worse – he was murdered.

Heaven doesn’t know who did it so with the help of two rogue angels, Dave must uncover the truth.

As divine forces from both sides start to play the game, can Dave get out of this alive? Or at the very least, with his soul intact?

An utterly gripping mystery for fans of Murder Before Evensong and The Appeal from the winner of the Comedy Women in Print Unpublished Prize!.

BRILLIANT!

Such a worthy winner of the Comedy Women in Print Prize 🎉

Dave wakes up in purgatory – which happens to be a youth hostel in St Ives in 1992. Not only is he dead, he's been murdered. His only hope of escaping purgatory is to find out who killed him and why, with the help of a couple of angels, one of whom looks remarkably like Michael Palin.

A witty, clever, brilliant, original, intriguing story. I loved it! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

WELL DONE Rebecca Rogers. Looking forward to your next book already.

Great narration from Ciaran Saward too.

Very entertaining, cosy listen!

Lovely story! Listening to this is like being wrapped in a warm blanket. It’s gentle, it’s funny, and the plot rolls along nicely such that you want to keep listening. The narrator reads it really well too.

Brilliantly written beautifully comic storytelling

This is a terrific and confident debut novel – highly recommended. It is funny, has a great plot, lots of twists and turns and no spoilers but God has a brummy accent. This is 10 hours of pure joy, the writing and narration are great. You haven’t read anything quite like this so dive in – looking forward to many more from RR.
