About this listen

Silver strings she can’t outrun...her trouble now has just begun.

After Cora Glass’s life was stolen by Harrow Faire, things just keep going from bad to worse. Unable to run, unable to escape, there seems to be no way to avoid what she’s become - the Contortionist. But a girl can only take so much.

Haunted by an abandoned and seemingly sentient circus? Fine. The life of her best friend threatened unless she sacrificed herself? Fine. Tormented and stalked by a grinning madman who wanted to kill her, and now wants to do worse? That’s where Cora has to draw the line. As she struggles with the knowledge that magic is real and she will never go home again, she is also forced to contend with the advances of a man who may be the devil himself. And just like the tales of old, she finds herself drawn to him. If only Harrow Faire would slow down and give her a second to catch her breath.

Too bad that doesn’t seem to be in the cards.

Intriguing

I am really interested in where this story is going. Everything mentioned in book one becomes more three-dimensional. I honestly didn't suspect depths this book is taking us to.
Quote at the end was just so unexpectedly deep, I almost choked.

loved it

It's like the contortionist is a prequel to this story. I enjoy the love-hate relationship. I was hoping for a steamy bit or two, that's the only thing I missed.

Book description:

Silver strings she can’t outrun…her trouble now has just begun.

After Cora Glass’s life was stolen by Harrow Faire, things just keep going from bad to worse. Unable to run, unable to escape, there seems to be no way to avoid what she’s become—the Contortionist. But a girl can only take so much.

My Thoughts 💭

The Puppeteer was a fantastic continuation to The Contortionist! It picks up right where the first one left off.

This series feels so different from everything else I've read from Kingsley. There is a feeling around these books that just keeps me enraptured! The world feels so small but huge at the same time.

Cora has a choice. The chance at her life back. But it will come at the expense of the lives of 'The Family'
Accept what she now is. The Contortionist. Or...

I've absolutely loved discovering more about the characters. I've loved watching how Cora is dealing with this rollercoaster shes on.

Mostly I've loved watching Simon develop as a character. He's mean and cruel, but theres such depths to him.

Kingsley has created a world so full of deep characters. I can't tell who's ally or enemy...

Most of all I'm absolutely loving the Letters from the elusive Mr Harrow at the end of the books. The carry so much meaning and real life applications it's almost chilling!

I've also just finished the Audiobook for this and again... amazing job!

I'm going to crawl back to my reading nook now...

Glorifies an abuser as the love interest

Repeatedly the main character is abused physically, mentally, and sexually. The love interest doesn’t stop doing this when she screams, cries, says no, tells him to stop. Even more concerningly her thoughts are repeatedly maybe deep down I don’t want him to stop oh wait I should hate him be shot me yesterday. Over and over again that’s essentially the whole book.

After loving book one, this sucked

Total waste of my money and I have bought the whole series! Book one was great but literally nothing happens I’m this book apart from Simon trying to get Cora in bed. That’s it!
Dragged out for 266 pages!
