Disappointing
After listening to several other Emily Barr novels I found this one very disappointing. Although the storyline was ok, it was quite reminiscent of others but it didn’t keep me enthralled the way the others had.
All the others I’ve read would be 5 star.

Great narration, gripping but unbelievable
Is there anything you would change about this book?
Storyline. The plot was distinctly unbelievable and positively silly in parts.
Has The Perfect Lie put you off other books in this genre?
No, I have read others by this author which were more realistic and believable.
What about the narrators’s performance did you like?
Narration was great! I really liked the different ages of the narrators, which I think added to the storyline.the accents were, by in large, very good.
Could you see The Perfect Lie being made into a movie or a TV series? Who would the stars be?
No, I don't think the plot in strong enough for dramatisation.
Any additional comments?
The suspense generated in the novel was gripping and it really kept my attention, however I was continually waiting for the missing part of the puzzle which would make everything clear and make sense thus never came, and all the way through I just kept staying ' Really?' And 'as if anyone would believe that!'

cleverly written.
Where does The Perfect Lie rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
One of the best ones.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Perfect Lie?
The realisation of who the girl is.
What does the narrators bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?
The narrators brought the characters to life and meant i can "read" more books because i love to listen while I'm doing things.
If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
Running away brings you to the same spot in a longer time.
Any additional comments?
I thought this book had more depth than was apparent by the publishers description.

Venice really lived
well written I liked the way it flips between characters and time to piece the story together. having visited Venice I was familiar with not knowing where you are and eventually ending up in familiar surroundings. Good use of voices to identify the characters.

WOW what a strange intense and well crafted book!
I have loved Emily Barr's books especially Sleeper and Backpacker which are so different they could have been written by different authors and yet both so brilliant. Now a third, equally different , equally brilliant touching this time on much darker themes but so richly woven and beautifully crafted with many themes coming together to create and intriguing plot with many different dimensions. I loved it. The narration was good also but not as good as the winding, twisting and turning story which was so elegantly told with plenty of twists, turns, thrills and chills. It was sad, it was triumphant, it was dark, it was sentimental and it gave such a beautiful authentic view of Venice with many the surprise tucked up its sleeve.
Gentle, enchanting, quirky, lovable and disturbing. Recommended for sensitive souls who love a well crafted mystery with an exotic local thrown in for good measure. 6 stars and more.

Predictable
Was an ok story but a bit generic. The narration felt like someone was telling story to kids

Rambling, pointless
What would have made The Perfect Lie better?
There is a good story here somewhere, but this book doesn't tell it.
Would you ever listen to anything by Emily Barr again?
No
What do you think the narrator could have done better?
The narration was OK
You didn’t love this book--but did it have any redeeming qualities?
None
Any additional comments?
2 chapters devoted to attending a Leonard Cohen concert, a whole chapter devoted to eating a fish salad, drinking a coffee, and visit a old church. Says it all.
