Summary
Brought to you by Penguin.
From the queen's stoic resolve to the crisis of Meghan and Harry. From the ascendance of Camilla and Kate to the downfall of Andrew.
Full of remarkable inside access, The Palace Papers by Sunday Times best-selling author Tina Brown will change how you understand the Royal Family.
'Never again', became Queen Elizabeth II's mantra shortly after Diana's death. More specifically, there could never be 'another Diana'—a member of the family whose global popularity upstaged, outshone and posed an existential threat to the British monarchy. Picking up where The Diana Chronicles left off, The Palace Papers reveals how the royal family reinvented itself after the traumatic years when Diana's blazing celebrity ripped through the House of Windsor like a comet.
Tina Brown takes listeners on a tour de force journey that shows the queen's stoic resolve as she coped with the passing of Princess Margaret, the Queen Mother and her partner for seven decades, Prince Philip, and triumphed in her Jubilee years even as the family dramas raged around her. She explores Prince Charles's determination to make Camilla his queen, the tension between William and Harry who are on 'different paths', the ascendance of Kate Middleton, the disturbing allegations surrounding Prince Andrew and Jeffrey Epstein and Harry and Meghan's stunning decision to 'step back' as senior royals. Despite the fragile monarchy's best efforts, 'never again' seems fast approaching.

Fantastic
I thoroughly enjoyed this audiobook. Full to the brim of juicy details. Fascinating information about different members of the family and details I wouldn’t have heard of previously. I didn’t realise how cruel the tabloids were over the years.
It always broke my heart that William and Harry lost their mother so young. Clearly Harry has unresolved issues for which I hope he gets the help he needs. Unfortunately I believe it left him susceptible to fall under the spell of the disingenuous Meghan. Time will tell …

Same old
Same rehashing of narratives already told . The author might also want to do her homework re the Good Friday agreement and her assertion that it was the work of the US and UK leaders , leaving out the work of Irish politicians north and south , as well as other groups !

A very interesting listen
The one thing that really annoys me is when a British author writes a book about something so quintessential British like the royal family has written the book aimed at the North American audience. Currency is noted in dollars not pounds, & the substitution of English words turned into the American terminology, even changing the way words of the same spelling are pronounced. I watch quite a bit of US tv shows so I was acquainted with the majority of terms, but I can’t imagine people 10 or more years older than me wouldn’t .
Anyway let’s get back to the substance of the book. The author is obviously a more of a traditionalist supporter of the Royal family in the way she bigs up Charles, Camellia, William & Catherine, whilst at the same time being biased & critical & of Diana, Harry & Meghan. The later 3 are and always have been my favourite royals apart from Queen. She did get the characteristics of Her Majesty spot on, praising the way she has served our country impeccably for the past 70 years. There are one or 2 things contained within the book that I’ve not heard previously. All in all a very enjoyable listen.

Perfect Papers
Although Tina is obviously familiar with the text, she delivers it in such a conversational manner, making it easy to engage with and invest in the narrative.
Although some proclamations seemed controversial, the overall impression is eminently likely to be accurate. it was compelling and provocative. It certainly convinces me that the travesty written by Omid Scobie and Meghan Markle only found a pile of detritus , not Freedom.
