Summary
As an undercover police officer, Rob Langton is used to terrifying situations. But his new assignment is his most dangerous yet – to infiltrate the notorious Carter family, and bring its patriarch Geraint to justice.
After gaining Geraint’s trust, Rob finds himself becoming the criminal's right-hand man. The deeper Rob gets, the more danger he’s in.
Then Geraint’s horrific plan comes to light – a bomb in a public place, designed to stir up anti-immigrant sentiment. Rob is the only person who can stop the carnage, but time is running out…

Quite enjoyable
I’m a fan of Jane Casey but I didn’t like this as much as her other books. I found the first half very slow and thought some of the actions the main character took were not very believable.

so good
Jane Casey is such a good storyteller. I practically inhaled this. If you've not read/listened to the Maeve Kerrigan books, start with those. The only thing that bothered me ever so slightly, is the fact that Rob didn't have a northern accent. He's from Manchester, admittedly from money, but even so, he should have a northern twang.

Terrifyingly brilliant.
This story gripped me from the very beginning. I made sure to find time to listen wherever and whenever possible. The narration added to the suspense too. it was a lovely surprise to have Maeve and Derwent popping up too. Please keep these stories coming Jane. I'm looking forward to the next one.

Totally absorbing
As I’ve come to expect from Jane Casey, this is beautifully written, with richly drawn characters and genuinely exciting and compelling story. I haven’t heard the narrator before. He does an excellent job. The only issue I have is that Meave Kerrigan is raised in England, but by Irish parents and she has a strong Irish accent in all previous books. Her words being spoken in an English accent here proved jarring to me, such that those sections of this book were distracting and, well, spoilt.

Great performance!
The plot itself was a bit far fetched hence the mark down, but it was still tense. The bit I found a bit - meh - was the fate of Naomi. Like, that pushed my suspension of disbelief a bit too far but >shrug
The standout was the narration. Josh Wichard was fantastic and I hope to see his name again. It's almost worth purchasing a book just because he narrates it he was that good.
